Are vintage voltage regulators brand specific? Not sure the application of this but was wondering if there's any reason it wouldn't work on a Ford flathead.

Are you running 6 or 12 volt? The ones I have are stamped 6 or 12 volts on the back. Besides that, I believe that they are pretty much universal.

Niehoff was a quality part. Wouldn't hurt to look inside for any fuzz on the contacts from long term storage.

This one is 12 volt, as is my car.

    Inside looks clean.

Check the the specs, I think where problems can arise is when a 40 amp regulator is used with a 30 amp generator, for example. The reverse would probably be OK. Should be good to go though.

Definitely want to dress the voltage/current/cutout relay points with a spoon file or jewelers file. Using wet dry will work temporarily but likely cause them to burn.

I bought an old 12 volt one at a swap meet ( still in the box). Mounted it and wired it up, no issues. Good luck

I remember there are two different types - A and B. Unfortunately that was a long time ago and I really wasn't paying attention. Google is your friend.

You have to be a rocket surgeon to understand what the differences are. -Google :D

Maybe I should be asking if this will work with an early Ford ('39ish) generator, converted to 12v. The regulator is 12v/35amps.
