Projects 1934 Ford Tudor - Bonnie

So I picked up an old family heirloom last December, a car which I have recovered history of ownership back as far as 1955. It was last driven prior to my purchase in 1974 by my father who purchased it in 1971 and although it has passed through six owners after he sold in 1987 it had remained untouched.

Very happy to have it and get it running driving and it drives surprisingly well. Car was in daily use up until 1971, so about 37 years of use.

Having some fun with it and getting a few little jobs done on it that need attention but plan is to run it as is.

Fantastic car. I see that it is RHD but yet has a "US" body. Did most of the New Zealand '34s have US bodies or where they like the Australian version?

 

We were fortunate in NZ, all our early cars were imported from Canada (US bodies), we didn't get any of the Australian bodies. 33 - 34 bodies really showed up the difference.

 

Sweet, It looks like it is still in great shape too.

 

New Zealand cars were US bodied canadian assembled until 1936 when a Ford assembly plant was built in Seaview Wellington. We have both local built and canadian built 36’s here as it seemed to be a changeover year. The 34 still has the door lock on the Left hand door and nil on our drivers door. They also had twin battery floor cut outs which is unique to them.

I have a PM7 manifold to fit to her and get set up and she needs some spring shackle bushes to take some slack out but otherwise bits and bobs to get everything working, needs another drivers door window regulator which i have bought to get the window functioning. I have rewired the whole car as the rodents had dined out on it and when I put a battery in the smoke leaked out of the wiring loom, so converted to 12 volt whilst at it.

IN THE BEGINNING: The car had a 24 stud installed where the 21 stud engine originally laid, the engine had never been run, had to come out as the 10" clutch fitted was hitting the clutch release shaft casting boss of the 1934 transmission housing. So that was good reason to remove and give a tidy up of the engine and engine bay, I had a set of Alloy C7RA Heads so fitted them to give it a better look.

THICKSTUN PM7 INTAKE MANIFOLD - So the plan is to get the PM7 in place asap but as has been stated many times before there is no 5 minute intake swap, so collecting the required pieces for carbs, linkages, fuel lines, vacuum line, air cleaners (the ones pictured were off my roadster and look good but don’t flow enough air) I like the Grace & Co air cleaners so have ordered a pair to top it off.

I like the clean look of the Canadian Alloy C7RA Heads and they are items I have had hanging on the wall for a while so were an easy and cheap upgrade on the look of the engine bay.

Doesnt scream hot rod with a single carb Flathead. Being a stock C51A i think dual 97’s with 43 Jets will do her until I get the longer term goal of a built C59A in there.

very nice. I don't know how anyone could shift with their left hand. I bet there is a lot more missed shifts over there than here in drag racing

 

THICKSTUN PM7 INTAKE : The Grace and Co air cleaners arrived today and they look as good as tits. Looking forward to getting the remaining items to get this thing on there.
