Badass show, folks! Thanks as always. Here are some HAMB-friendly shots, with a full gallery here: https://pistnbroke.smugmug.com/2018-Symco-Weekender/. Feel free to download any of those images you'd like.
Some "traditional" photography (i.e., film) for traditional cars... Full gallery here: https://pistnbroke.smugmug.com/2018-Symco-Weekender
It was a great show for years. The last few it's been a huge drunk fest. With that many drunks staggering around something bad was bound to happen. It was only a matter of time. This year a guy in flip flops climbed the bridge to sit on the tractor that's placed up there. He slipped and fell 20 feet onto his face. Lying there unconscious with a skull fracture earned him a ride on flite for life. I haven't heard any updates if his is alive or dead but it wasnt looking good. There was also a kid on a mini bike that was run over by a four wheeler. If i ever go again i will leave early its gotten that bad.
Had a friend that crashed a snowmobile and ended up taking a ride in the "Flite for Life" helicopter......$72,000.00. Hope this guy is ok, and has good insurance.
I wouldn’t go labeling Symco as a “huge drunk fest”. Our point of view was that things were pretty mellow. We got to socialize with some good sober people with families and everyone was respectful.
Ok it's a frat party with some old cars. There are alot of good sober people at the show. There are also more slobbering drunks there than any of the shows I attend. I'm not opposed to drinking. I do it myself. This show just takes it to at times a unsafe level. I heard tonight the bridge guy is alive and left the hospital ama.
Great pics to @McClutchski and @63Biscuit. Sorry about the negatives in the positives. It's something the organizers have to work on. It certainly isn't isolated to one show that's for sure.
They did put up a Burn out pit so that cut down on the burn outs on the street. A silver 64 hemi Plymouth for years just abused the car on the street. High rpm burnouts one after the other showing off. This was the road separating the show cars from the swap meet at the main gate. Its a high pedestrian area. A stuck throttle or a hooked tire could have brought on a big disaster. The 250 mini bikes riding around will probable need to be addressed soon. I'm not all negative. As far as a place to hold a show it's the best in the country hands down. There is nothing like it.
@racer-x I get what you're saying and yeah, some drunk dude did something that was pretty stupid. At the same time, I felt that this year was actually better in terms of behavior than the last time I attended in 2015. YMMV.
Thanks for the kudos, Stogy. Like I mentioned to Racer-x, I actually felt this year's show was better, behavior-wise, than in years past.
