Mr. Google says it's a one off that was built in Sweden patterned after a 1950s Ferrari.

@guffey please start a build thread on that car. That frame is the coolest thing I've seen in this whole thread. I'd love to see the engine sitting in the frame to better understand the layout. Those Alfin brake drums are awesome. Any more history as far as where the guy lived who built it or the year? From your Korean war comment I'm thinking early 50s? Red Ram power puts it at at least 1953. My Rocket powered car im working on was built between 53 and 54. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1950s-tube-frame-sports-car.993579/

I may have some info on those copper finned brakes for you. That is one wild chassis, who was the builder and where was he from?

how were the front radius rods attached to the frame? Heim joints, tie rod ends?

Couldn't it still be early Ford cross steer like a 40 Ford box? It would still steer the same from the other side you'd just have to run the drag link to the left side. It would pull that side rather than pushing the right but still have the same effect on the front end. It looks like he mounted the box on the outside of the frame/bracket which would be the same as bolting it on the inside of the frame on the conventional left steer car. I might be way off. Just some thoughts.

So there are no ball joints at the radius rod attachment? I guess he used the rubber from the motor mounts as the flexure? This dude sure did things his own way, and I love it.
Plus the brakes, I have found out a lot about a number of copper finned brakes that were made in that period, but these are different. They are literally just brazed to the iron drums, no tinning of copper around the drum first. I wonder if that would have worked?

  14. Toying with the idea of putting a 427 Fe into a 1965 Volvo P1800. Bought 2 of them (a 65 and 66) both rust free 66VolvoLeftside.jpg from the local scrapyard before they got crushed and started a search on putting a V-8 into one. Seems like Holman-Moody put a HiPo 289 into one with a stock body. It ended up without enough room in the drivers footbox for a clutch so an auto was installed.

My solution (because I have 2) is to build a custom rectangular frame and stretch the body 6+ inches and then grafting two front sheetmetal fenders and hoods together. Narrowed Mustang II front suspension and then a Jag XKE rear axle. I do have all the suspension parts as well (this was a strategic purchase from the scrapyard).
Does anyone have a record or pictures of this type of swap?
Thanks for any comments or thoughts.

You guys that live in places without crazy rust don't realize how lucky you are! Here in the Midwest any of those you'd find in the junkyard would be missing most of the car below the door handles! Lol
Those P1800s are such awesome cars. I've seen V8 swaps but not a big block one before. Hope it all works out. I'm interested in seeing the body lines after you extend the hood. Looks possible. I'll be watching for updates.

  17. I did retire from SE Michigan in 2003 and cannot believe the rust free quality of 50's and 60's cars here, unless they are within 10 miles of the Pacific Coast (salt air)

The car in reply #361 appears to be the same as the orange Cheetah. They are hot, and twitchy. Never lived up to their believed potential.

The car in post # 361 is one of the original aluminum bodies Cheetahs and has some subtle differences from the orange car which may be one of the later fiberglass units ( or even one of the more recent "continuation" cars).
