That was about the best race I’ve ever had, against one of the coolest guys, and best friends a guy could be lucky enough to have.
I thought I had cut a pretty decent light, until I saw that red fender go jumping up and right past my window!

Thanks for everything Norb! And all the other incredible friends we’ve made at the Meltdown this year, and in past years.

Also,I’m gonna need to see that dash cam footage.
My GoPro had ghosts in it all weekend, and wouldn’t take more than 3 seconds of footage before shutting down.
I guess we could have caught one of Jeff’s legendary reaction times with it...?

We all had to flip a lotta burgers to get here, little Brother!

You bring what y’all are bringin,I’ll bring the best I can muster up,an we’ll have us a drag race.
The way you ran in your very first pass ever, for both you AND the Psyclone, tells me you ain’t gonna be no “fish in a barrel” .

Looking forward to racing again, and more importantly, hanging out some more. You still can’t knock the grin off Pop’s face with a shovel, and it was about the best time I ever had in recent memory.
    Thanks for everything you guys.

Hey,did Bob get the axle replaced?

I may have to power it direct from the cigarette lighter to keep it running for that kind of timeframe.

Larry just bought one of those old chivvies out of pity....it’s sort of like sending in money to a telethon or something.

Actually Ford guys buy tri five Chevy's because Chevy guys pay big bucks for them! Means more money to buy Ford Stuff! :D lol. But to be truthful My Uncle Doug had a 55 Chevy with a dual quad 327, 4 spd with a tilt front end and Raider mags back in 1968 when I was 13. First ride in a hot rod. And since I was born in 55 this one has some sentimental value :):) Larry

Well, my Brother Larry has started building his new 59 Impala to run at either next year's USPEC or Meltdown.....Or both. He's not exactly sure on the engine / trans combo, but it's narrowed down to about 3 choices.

These are, a somewhat built 350 that, (years ago), he pulled out of his 73 Nova, (a factory 4 speed car), a new crate engine, or basically a replica of what he was running when he quit racing his original 59 Impala, in 1967.

He'd REALLY like to build the replica engine.....A 283 bored to 301, 12 1/2 compression, factory F.I. heads, and an Isky 550 Super LeGerra cam. About the only change would be in the carburation. In 1967, he was running a factory dual quad setup, with Carter WCFB's. The new setup would have a single 4bbl. probably a Holley. The trans will be a 4 speed, although it'll be either a Muncie or Super T-10, instead of the original 1959 T-10. The big drawback to this engine, would be the lack of streetability......And he does want to drive it some, on the street, so that's a big consideration.

By the way, this year's Meltdown was the first time he's been at a drag strip since 1967.

The color photos are of the new 59, while the black and whites are of the original, when he built the 301 in 1964.

A 348 just sitting around doing nothing! Add a sweet looking 59 impala. Sounds like a perfect match to me! Besides Scott needs some more hot Chevy's to try and put a few more notches on his gun belt!;) lol Well unless I do decide to finish My 55, then he should respect his elders and give me a head start! Enloe the Rumbler pitted two cars away from me and ran and sounded really great. He made a long haul I believe from California. Seeing that video makes me anxious for next year.
