Plymouth had HY-Drive but no fluid drive. Glad someone pointed out that it is a Dodge.

Hate to mention this, but when we (friends and I in H.S.) were running around in our hot rods (T's, chopped/channeled/fendered A's, '32s, '34s) there were some nerds that had '49 Plymouths, '50 Dodges, and such...
There was a 'Students' Car Show' on the football field in '58. Our hot rods were specifically invited, (to show off the High School Students' automotive expertise!) but the '49 Plymouth and '50 Dodge attempted to drive in the open gate.
Mr. Giles, the boys' basketball coach, had to explain to these proud car owners what the show was about.
The school newspaper was quick to report this 'travesty' toward the 'conservative, responsible types' that were shunned at the show!

Later, I was reminded of this when 'Goodguy' Meaders strove to include everyone (well, practically!) when he over rode NSRA with his brave new world.....

Not meaning 'mean', just an observation. (I also have a '54 Ford Coupe...I'm no different...)

  16. My grandmother had a four-door '49 Chrysler. Hail the size of baseballs pummeled the farmhouse, barn, chicken houses and other outbuildings on Good Friday 1960. Broke all windows and shattered the siding on the south and west sides of the house, ruined all roofs, punched grapefruit-sized holes in the tarpaper siding of the chicken houses and milking barn, shattered the windshield on the Chrysler, but didn't leave a dent on the hood, fenders, top or rear deck. They're thick-skinned battleships!

Here are pics of a 49 Dodge Coronet currently being chopped.
The first one shows the mods to the rear, top corner of the door. Thanks to the magic of white masking tape and a black sharpie.

My recent "pulled trigger". Plain Jane as she is called. Redone by a good friend 40 or so years ago. Engine rebuilt at that time as well as a new paint job (that still looks great by the way) and many new suspension parts. He passed away in 2001 and the car basically sat dormant for the past 17 years. His son passed her down to his son. When they decided they would not be doing anything with her, I got the call. I have upgraded to disk brakes and new Coker radials WWW's. Just got her licensed. Next up is a new interior over the winter. Hope to do dual exhaust with a split manifold and dual carbs also.

Nobody more then me gets more excited about pullng the trigger when I find something I really want. Once I get it I seem to lose interest pretty fast and start to wonder what I was thinking. Guess thats why I'm always selling something.

  25. My dad had a 50 Dodge when I was a kid. He bought it because he saw it for sale and his dad had one when he was a kid. Guess I should look for one now that my boys are the same age as I was and he was respectively.
Looked pretty much like the black 51 coupe above. No plaid on the seats (mohair).
Pops let me drive it to high school sometimes. Wasn’t fast but the semi automatic trans was interesting.
