im in love with it just the way it is. love the fenders...and they dont look that bad. definately fixable. i do understand the more horses part of it. the rest of it i would clean up and drive the heck out of it. Sometimes i think finds like that just deserve to be preserved in their found state...or close to it. pretty awsome car! goodluck with it!

 

Going to blow the dust off this thread and post some long over due updates. I posted them the other day but the crash got the better of them.
Anyway some of the first things I did after the last post was drill and dimple my visor. Made my own dimple dies. I also put a roof insert in. I used part of a roof off a 58 ford. I wanted inverted ribs. I put in a cowl vent out of a 50 chevy truck. Also a local guy Sam Jamieson punched a few louvers in my deck lid. He is SUPER reasonable.

Scored some radir 5 spokes from a fellow hamber. Outer lip was machine finished so I sanded out the grooves and polished them as well as painting the centers.

Blasted the body, found some spots that were gonna need fixed. Also painted my rear end copper ( not the exact final color). The spider gears were trash, and I'm planning on having some serious hp so I got a strange 35 pine center section and axles.

Engine painted and ready to go in. Had some ugly bulky headlight stands so I drilled some holes in them

Had to make some provisions for a roll cage for later. Cut holes in floor and welded some tube stubs onto the frame. Epoxy primed the frame.

Loaded the coupe up to take it to my buddy Mike's. He graciously wired it up for me while I was on vacation. We were trying to get it ready for the 2014 HAMB Drags. This was about 3 weeks out

Rolled it out for the first time. Looks good all put together. One of my other buddies made a copper dash insert for it.

We made the hamb drags here are a few shots from it. Ran a 14.0. Not bad for a stock hemi except for the 2x4 intake.

If you weren't going to run a Ford mtr then a Mopar Hemi has all the right moves. Expensive to build but worth it. I followed a "A" banger up a hill this past weekend to a veteran's car show in my '59 Dodge that has a flathead banger. lol It was cool seeing the little A saying: I think I can, I think I can.

 

Just read your entire thread....super cool! Your car reminds me of DW s A-coupe. Similar wheels, similar chop etc.

 

My buddy Rev added some striping and I was able to take my daughter to school in it on her first day of 8th grade

Rocky funny DW'S coupe was definitely inspiring. It is so bad ass! I first saw it when he was running white walls with radirs. I wanted to go with the 12 spokes. The next time I saw his coupe he was running them as well. Oh well

Picked up a blower for the coupe, stuck it on to run without building the motor. Never really got it dialed in right. Took it to the hamb drags and during that downpour/flood, got water in it. Took it home and began the tear down. Took the body and frame to a "buddys" shop to do the body and paint work. It sat in bodyshop pergotory for a year and a half. Paid half his quote too

Rescued the body and frame and took it to my buddy Adam Burrows' shop (check out The Burrows Coupe on here to see his amazing 34) and he immediately started to go to town on the body.

After I tore the engine down I contacted Nick Smithberg of Smithberg Racing to port my heads. He was developing a cnc program for these 354 heads. He was able to squeeze an additional almost 100 cfm over stock. Not only did he do the porting work, he developed a set of offset rocker stands and rebuilt my rocker assembly. One of the things he did was beef up the exhaust rockers so they will hold up in a boosted application. He's also helping me out with a 4 port hilborn efi injection conversion. If you need some head work done he's the man. 402bossman here on the hamb.

After Adam Burrows got the bodywork squared away I took the body and frame Steve Hansen at Collision Works. He does the paint for Adam's shop. He is just now finishing the paint. Went with Chrysler Mango Tango and a custom off white to match my interior color.

I turned to local upholsterer Carlos Behena to do my interior. He did a great job on my seat and was quick as well. After I get the body back I'll have hi do the rest

Old thread, fantastic results.

 

The body/frame paint looks really great, heading up to be nice little hot rod.

As luck would have it, the weather sucked balls on the trip home. Its going to be a driver so might as well get used to it.
