i know this part of the thread is a bit old, but IMS (industrial metal supply, i think there's one in tucson) sells lots of resin impregnated fabric stuff. a lot of honeycomb, tube, etc. it's extremely light, very stiff, fireproof. and it *was* available in the 60s as aerospace surplus. it's not even expensive. i've use 1/4" thick smallish honeycomb in front and behind my aluminum radiator.

4" or so strips of the 1/4" stuff epoxied/polyester resined to the back of flimsy plastic fender could weight a pound or two and give a lot of strategic strength. stuff feels as light as air.

 

thanks for the suggestion, Tom. I've seen some of the honycomb stuff at the IMS in Tucson....I hadn't looked at it that way.

 

The same thing happens with people I've lost.

 

If you're planning to make a fiberglass hood eventually that honeycomb material might be a great way to take the flop and flutter out of it. Good idea tomic.

 

I'm getting a pre made fiberglass hood, but I have to lengthen it...so yeah, good idea

 

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy. We found that getting another one asap helped for us.

 

I have to agree with Racer X. I have lost several pets. I happen to like cats. They last around 14-15 years. I love my cats. But when I loose one. I'm at the ASPCA the next day. Much easier on me.

Jim, without going too deep in the 51 pages, you're using a 727 full automatic, right? Also I assume a blower, in order to pull this off. So, how about the torque converter? Sorry if already back there somewhere.

I've been working on the "tin"....finishing up the second wheel well, made the transmission tunnel, then I'll do the rest of the trunk floor. I'll see about getting some fresh pictures up soon.

I would think that windshield wipers are needed to be truly street legal. For weight c
savings, how about manual marine wipers ?

Wow! You continue to amaze me, Jim. Great job!

 

I found an NOS universal marine wiper motor that I'm planning to adapt to the driver side, and no wiper on the pass side. We'll see how that works. RainX and a blower seem to not work as good as it should because of the strange aerodynamic effects of blocking the airflow to the middle of the windshield.

and yeah, I'm building the car so it will meet all pertinent Arizona motor vehicle laws.

Probably could have been if he hadn't taken the time to install all the chrome...

I've discovered its really hard to build a car with a camera in your hand, and it takes a lot longer to stop to take pictures.

I only wish I could get 1/4 of the stuff done in a day that Jim gets accomplished in a day, and then, he does it day after day! With pictures! And life events thrown in for good measure!
