Is that a water bag hanging from the mirror of the 55 Ford Wagon? I seem to remember being in the deserts of the Southwestern US when I was a child and seeing cars with water bags that looked similar to that hanging in front of the grill. It seems like I remember being told it had something to do with keeping the engine cooler.

My dad hung 2 of them on our 56 going cross country in the summer way to the outside by the parking lights. The air going by them as they sweat went into the air ducts and cooled the car like air conditioning. Worked best in Az. with low humidity.

M & H mr Rifkin. A great supporter of NEMA midgets also. Always
in the pits. He might sell you a “tough” tire or a “not so tough” tire.
    A neat guy.

  10. GM didn't make the heads, Mickey did. He also made Hemi heads for FE Fords, Ford didn't.
the design was a copy of Chrysler's Hemi.
The GM racing ban simply meant Mickey didn't get any under the table money from Pontiac, besides he quit racing and making them

  17. Lock Martin portrayed Gort in the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, he stood 7' 7" tall.

To stay on topic his 1936 Ford convertible is in the background. HRP

These two water bags were Grandad's, hanging in my garage.[IMG]

They also came in very handy when the car overheated and needed the radiator topped off.

I have seen this photo many times over the years but today is the first time I noticed Ed Roth had kicked off his shoes before he got in Tweety Pie. HRP
