I have a question for the SB Chevy experts. Does anyone has a vacuum diagram for a intake manifold casting number 346250 and second question is there no EGR Valve? Thanks again for your help
i see no place for an EGR valve. i also see mounting holes for a coil, so it's an early manifold...probably before the pollution stuff what do you mean by vacuum diagram? the only port i see that would have vacuum is that port on the rear intake runner right in front of the distributor hole
the fact that it has the bosses to mount an ignition coil makes it 74 or older. 1975 was electronic ignition
Info I found said it was a 76-82 305/350 intake. It may be that the casting number was carried over to the later engines and the egr part was added to the casting. We all know GM was bad about using the same block casting numbers thru different variations. I would say that intake is 74 and earlier because of the divorced choke and is non egr.
Thanks for your answers. So is it a good intake or should I look for a late 70's early 80's intake. I do not need more power. I only want to change my 2 barrel carb into a 4 barrel Carb ( came of a 83 Monte Carlo ) I have a 283 Chevy original Chevy engine. Thanks again
Yes it is funny what GM did. In Europe you could by big Opel cars with brand new 327 engines up to the 80's
without knowing more about the engine, vehicle, etc, it's hard to make a recommendation..but for a stockish 350 with a Qjet on it, that's a decent intake. Probably the best one to recommend, if you're shopping for $5 intake manifolds.
Hi Jim I have an original 1959 Bel Air 283 engine 350 TH transmission. I will not use the car for racing or so.. Just like to have an nice running with easy to get parts in Canada, So I bought a TH350 , a Qjet Carb and I will use a canister ( fuel tank vent ) to stop the gas smell in the garage. I did it on my Buick, works great. I could buy the intake from a 83 Chevy Monte Carlo for $25.00 it it's a better one.
For a dollar-down build, that intake, and a good Quadrajet will work fine, so long as you address the 283's crankcase venting. Later SBC's lost the fill/breather that the early SBC's had.
Well, the fill goes away with the manifold. You can take out the baffle below the manifold, and then put a core plug in the road draft tube hole. You will need to have another form of venting, or a conventional PCV setup.
put some later model valve covers (with PCV and breather holes) on it, and you'll solve that problem. It just won't look like a 283 any more
Pull the intake off and put it on Ebay , Roundy Round track racers like them because they are non EGR, What is the casting number on the '83 Monte intake? That maybe a good one too.
