Both Dragsters in this picture were built by Dode Martin "Dragmaster Dragster" The other one in the picture is the Potvin blown Mooneyes Dragster. Dode told me that this frame he built for Pete was the lightest frame they ever built, Dode said Pete was obsessesd with weight. 051.jpg

    Hello,

Nice photo from 1960. The Chizzler was a pretty amazing race car. My brother and I saw it in person in 1959 when they came out West to challenge the “Best of the West” at the Riverside Raceway Dragstrip. The first racecar we saw in the pits was the Chizzler. It was well known to us through reading the Drag News paper every week. It was constantly in the news and setting a record here and there, back in the Midwest/Chicago area.

During the time trials, they ran it with the nose cone. During some of the eliminations, they took the nose cone off. But the impressive thing were the special, down tube, "zoomie," custom headers. They were one of a kind.

Then, in June 2017, there was a “newer” Chizzler on display in the Price Transfer Lions Dragstrip Museum main floor. It was right nearby where my Lions films were playing all day and into the early evening.

The “New Chizzler” is a very popular race car during all of the “Cacklefests” in So Cal.

The “Cacklefests” are approaching , again, in the warm summer/fall nights. One of the biggest and most unusual is held in Escondido, CA down the City’s main street, Grand Avenue. It is the old town scene with shops lining the street and cool cars cruising down the avenue. Then in the evening, the race cars take over and the show starts…

Cruising Grand “Nitro Night” in Escondido, CA is on for Sept 28, 2018

  10. The Moonbeam with the chute out. That was a versatile race car. Dean drove it at Bonneville and 1/4 and 1/2 mile drags. I like versatile race cars. ;)

Looks like an "old" picture..... Look at the tree guys!!!
I don't think any track still uses an old chrondek tree anymore.... I could be wrong...

Gammz is correct- He was there and so was I. I watched the run, albeit from the staging lanes. We run off the sportsman tree (3 amber) for the Meltdown. The Goldchainer contorted even a bit more in the tower lane but the car runs strong no matter what. May look old in some respects but Scott Rods placard does give it away.

Valley Home Service, very early Fuller car when he was still using most of the VW front end, later he used just one torsion bar (there was a VW wrecking yard near his shop, so easy VW torsion bar supply). This car, featured in Hot Rod, later got a blower, but a flywheel failure in the lights at San Fernando cut it in half.

Ketter & Stewart, blown Chrysler on fuel. I watched this car get sideways at Fontana, went off the track and into the parking lot. I think the driver got a broken ankle, but the car was pretty much gone.

    I don't know who this is...anyone?

smokers dragster 3.jpg From the Smoker's collection, around '54...don't have an identity on this car.

Orange County Metal Processing, near side, vs an unknown fueler. The OCMP has the long radius rods that Ivo favored, so wonder if it is an Ivo chassis? It later went to Val LaPorte, who ran it off the track and into a pond in Florida...

I wonder if this is the same car before the Olds...both rear engine and using a Willys hood for a nose.

When I lived in Goleta Ca. I’d fly my plane in/out of Santa Barbara airport for years & was told by many people that worked there that was the sight of the old Goleta drag strip. Santa Barbara Airport is actually in Goleta.

When This picture was taken it was at Pomona 1963, it was a Gartlis chassis that Mike & myself partner in. Mike bought me out & this is the second time mike ran the car & the motor was built by Chuck Quinzler who worked with Jim Fox before the frantic 4. Mike teamed with Boyd Pennington a short time later.
