Scrolling thru all these pictures of historic drag cars, I have come to the conclusion that the dodge/plymouth
products far out-number the other major brands. :)

Thought this ad was interesting, the whole family out for a drive in the family factory drag car..... those were the day's....when I was a kid my parents owned a 68/69 Barracuda fastback it had the HP 273 4spd dark metallic brown with wide oval 60's with reversed black steel wheels no caps...my mom drove it during the week and on the weekends my dad drove on are way to go shopping around the Portland Oregon area he would head over to PIR/Delta Park and take it for a few laps around the road course to blow the gunk out he would say we would all put are seat belts on and off we flew ..dad grabbing gears mom yelling slow down and me and my younger brother and sister sitting in the back holding on...back in them days they didn't gate the track ..... Kudos to all the contributors. It's great to see new stuff, and the mining of old magazine images prompts me to resurrect a request I posted on the Stock--S/S--F/X 1959-1966 thread, which never yielded any results. Here it is:
An oddball question: From my late, lamented teenage car mag collection I remember a two-page spread in one of the smaller, more obscure publications about a super stock meet or match race (I don't think it was a feature on a particular car) at what would have been a small unsanctioned track. This would have been in 1965, maybe late 1964. The one thing that remains vivid is a 63 Plymouth that was competing in this event with not much front sheet metal and what appeared to be wire front wheels. Really bizarre. I'd love to see that again.
There was some back-and-forth with Joel on that site, who also remembered the car and feature. Our recollections agreed on the car -- wire front wheels that looked like they came from a Model A, but Joel thought the feature was a humorous piece in SS&DI. I still think it was legitimate race coverage, but in one of the lesser SS and FX mags that were popping up every month back then. If it had been SS&DI, it would have been fairly easy to find. We also agreed on the primitive track; Joel suggested Lassiter Mountain or Sumerduck.
So, all you folks who still have extensive magazine collections, can you find this feature? Thanks in advance.

This shot is from Riverside Dragway in Melbourne, Australia. The former airstrip was pretty much in downtown Melbourne, just across the Yarra river from the central business district.
