Recently bought a 53 Mainline which had the entire fuel system rusted up. I attempted to clean the tank with Muriatic acid, but it created several pinholes in the tank. So now I'm on the hunt for a new tank. I found a tank from Mac's auto for about $400 with shipping. However, I'm considering a plastic or poly tank for it. Anyone have any experience with this search, or know of any that would work. Also and cons with running a plastic or poly tank vice the steel? Thanks!

check Memmings Motor News. The have several suppliers that can beat the 4 bill price. Shop around a little.

This has been done by quite a few to "kill two birds with one stone" if you have a rusty trunk floor you cut it open and bolt down the tank that way you have a new tank and a new floor, since Fords used six volt gauges up into the early 80's this whole kit will fill the bill: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-1966-M...966|Model:Mustang&hash=item35ba089473&vxp=mtr If you convert to 12 volts you will need this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/360928515943?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

That mustang will fit under with the spare tire cutout and still have the filler neck in the proper position? Just looks wide, but also it may be the look of the filler neck not off centered like the OE tank. Need to fabricate new straps too? Thanks a ton.

I have the mustang tank in my 53, I wish I had went another route. Had to cut the spare tire well out of my trunk to bolt it in gauge and sender have never worked properly.

Well thats too bad. Im still trying to figure out the best route. New tanks are $350.00 all day. and They dont hold much fuel as Im using a bigger engine. I did also hear that other tanks interfere with proper level sender operation. Guess Ill continue my search!

  10. $325... getting better... but out of stock. But now you have a part number to search with.

Looks like nobody (usual Ford suppliers) has it and Spectra Tanks doesn't list it. If you had the Spectra part number you'd get more search hits. Which is the same as the OG tank, usually like a F34B (for a '59 Ford).

    Obsolete Reliable Parts lists it.
