A friend of mine has a Flathead Ford with this magneto. Sometime in its life Joe Gimsa stamped his name on it. Does anyone know who made it?. DSC07746.JPG DSC07747.JPG DSC07748.JPG DSC07749.JPG

    Aircraft mag? That cool!

  5. Ask Joe. (sorry I just couldn't resist).

All I can tell by looking at it is that it has twin coils and a cap for 8 cylinders.

I can tell you this, @GMC BUBBA here on the HAMB has a good buddy that is a magneto guy. If you don't get an answer here maybe he can hook you up with good info on the mag.

  7. Pretty sure that is Joe GEMSA, not Gimsa. Joe was a well known builder of speed equipment, including casting his own overhead cylinder heads for Model A's and even Dual overhead cam heads for Model T's. was also a championship Sprint car racer. He passed in 1995 at the age of 75 You can find plenty of info on him on the internet JoeGemsa.jpg

  8. I remember Gemsa Speed Parts at swap meets when I was a kid all the old timey guys wanted them. This makes perfect sense.

Don do you know was he based out of El Monte?

  9. PNB Yes I did, I grew up less than 10 miles away form him

  10. The more I look at this mag the more I think it started life on an Allison V-1710... How large is it and what do the small tags say?

I just found these images on line. Joe Gemsa must have modified these to work with a flathead, although they look like they could be adapted to run any V-8
