Hot Rods Home made roadster roofs or tops

I'm considering making a convertable top for my roadster . That being said most of the body on my car is hand built so a off the shelf frame probably won't work so I would like to see pics of ones you guys may have done.

Anything to hide those seats has got to be good.

 

I made my own on my 1927 roadster but I do not have pics in my IPad , I will post them tomorrow. Gary

I have a small thing for this car, although I prefere if it had a better finish, aka. less RR.

 

Finished out that coupe/seadan could be killer!.
Vroom, as for your top. I made a few skeletons out of conduit bent over some old rims. really not that hard to get the frame, then have someone stitch up a cloth

 

Ok almost 3 years later I’ve finally gotten around to experiment with a removable roof . I really hadn’t needed one till I got caught in the rain so here is the frame so far.

Looks like a good start looking forward to talking to you at Syracuse. I am going to be hand building a model A and would love to get some ideas from your build. Did you do a build thread on here? Hobo Jim

 

Not really any harder to make it fold down. I did a folding top tech ,years back on how to build one. That "patterg2003"Glenn, in post #6 left you a link too.

 

Jim I’ll look forward to seeing you there we will be parked in Indian village in the shade. No I didn’t post any build thread but I have a ton of pictures and will answer any questions you have. As for my roof I think I will try covering it tomorrow or this weekend

I built this out of 1” flat bar, got some local guys to make the cover. It doesn’t fold, but looks like it might.

 

The only problem I've seen with "home made"tops is they usually look home made.

 

Here's mine, completely home made. There are some things you need to consider.
A zip out back window will mitigate the flap at highway speeds. Also consider
padding the big area between the windshield and first top bow.

 

Strange, but I'm digging it.....Just when you've thought you've seen it all.

 

Well most of the rest of the car is home made so it should fit right in.

I actually like a number of things about that car too. I'm not big on "flaunting rust", but the shape of the frame and body has nice lines, and the curved bones are a clever touch. Clean the rust off, fab a better gas tank to replace the gas can, maybe a track nose or chopped radiator/grill so it's not uphill from the cowl, and lower the engine and the lines would be killer.

I like the lift up top idea in general. Here are a couple of others:

 

I have no problem with something I have made myself looking like I made it myself.

Thank you Patsurf , after an initial road test all is holding together . I’m sure it will need a little tweaking but so far so good. The inside isn’t as pretty yet but this was my first attempt.
