Wonder where this axle is made. https://www.ebay.com/itm/46-NON-Dri...odHot-RodRat/263488143404?hash=item3d591e002c
Vintage brand is Hoffman . Definitely not forged as stated. I haven't seen reports on these, but other cast axles have broke.
Depending on what year you want, call Nostalgia Sid, or Okie Joe. https://www.droppedaxles.com/ http://www.joesspeedshop.com/joesproducts.htm Joe dropped the axle on my A. First-rate.
You would expect that they would use a better than average one in the photos, yet there is an obvious casting flaw in the first photo of the kingpin boss. Scary that it shows 49% sold.
How can they get away with outright lies saying it's "forged"? It's really obvious if you look at the parting line. I guess the seller doesn't know what he has, and Ebay doesn't want to lose the sale listing. But gads, that is an ugly axle!!!
Buyer beware,if it sounds cheap,it is. Hoffman company has a long history of misrepresenting parts and a lot of hambers have gone down that path,it IS not a forged axle. HRP
Use a real Ford axle and have it dropped by the above guys or I use Ansen Axles . Greg does a Great job and he’s a one man shop so Quality takes time....
I like their weak attempt to emulate Super Bell with their logo cast in the web. That axle is the ugliest POS I've ever seen.
Sure buy that, their steering column and brake kit and you have the trifecta of death. I wonder how in the hell they can keep legally getting by with this shit ?
I know they're made overseas but I've sold a lot of So-Cals forged I beam with no problems to date. I had one dropped an additional inch for a 5 inch drop so I know they're forged, couldn't do that with a cast axle. I also have had several Henry axles dropped by Anson axles, great quality.
I have use Henry axles and a few Chassis Engineering axles,I'm Leary of cast axles. It appears now that Heidts Hot Rod and Muscle cars has purchased Chassis Engineering after the owners passing the dropped forged axle is no longer available. HRP
I have to wonder why a company would put out a product that is THAT likely to be lethally dangerous when it fails.
I refereed to another Hoffman junk sellers stuff as Hoffman junk and he joined the Hamb to send me a nasty pm. Since the magazines won't take their adds anymore they guys around the country to sell their stuff but still use the original photos and description. I have one of the SoCal axles that Krylon32 mentioned and it is nice. I got a deal on mine because a vendor had drug it around from show to show as his display unit and it has a few marks on it from being handled and bounced around. I'd go along with getting an original axle and having it dropped or buying a dropped axle from okie Joe and paying the core charge. Some of the other axle droppers that turn out nice work might sell that way too. From what I understand Sids does the parallel leaf spring axles and Okie Joe does the Ford transverse spring axles.
There has been a long in depth discussion on aftermarket axle failures here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/broken-i-beam-axle.696898/
There's another one on that auction sight for $120, with free shipping! Oh, Glory! But it looks like it doesn't have the groovy cast in logo. Instant savings.
Sid and Joe do mine. Henry could mix up a strong batch of metal then pound on it to make it indestructible.
