Walked up to a model A RR yrs ago. Was totally flabbergasted seeing ALL the cold chicken shit welds throughout the whole frame build.
I couldn’t walk away without politely telling the builder his car was a death trap.
He smiled, thanked me and said he was a certified welder and covered the good welds with chickenshit for the shock value. Weird.

that car must be a brand new build. it is not a question of IF that will fail, but when and where.

Aren't those radius rods off some kind of tractor implement? They look like stuff you see on a three point hitch.

  9. They are female thread inserts welded into plain pipe. Super simple and bulky as hell combined with spindelly. Probably best suited to farmers
    fabricating in the corn field.

  10. They are homemade as well
    The welding matches the axle
I hope it’s not hardware store pipe

It's as if...Someone were looking for a 'T' axle. Then they found one. Then... LOL ...and, then... and THEN?
    .......Where the hell is Jones?
    He'll be along

  13. As well intended as that sounds "some form of inspection" is not something to wish for.

  14. It’s a 2 edged sword.
An inspection process should be used to encourage craftsmanship not make it harder for quality builders to build safe cars
It should be used to correct mistakes like this and not keep the guy from enjoying a safe ride

Those cracks will be mistaken as orange graphics.

  17. There needs to a minimum standard things are held to. There are building codes for structures, SCTA has standards, NHRA has standards, the soap box derby has standards , hell the Boy Scouts have standards on their pine wood derby cars and there should be something for guys who grabbed a welding machine at the grocery store across from the dog food that have gumption but no understanding.

When on of these turds kills a senators kid,, watch what happens.

Would it not be better for the car enthusiast community to set the standards and then lead the push for compliance than having some bacteria filled bureaucrat develop and Shove it down our throats?

  18. My experience with anyone who does any kind of inspections is that they love the power they wield over you. I can see a lot of problems with this idea. Just look at what we have to go through with VIN inspections and DMV hassles. Don't forget the associated fees to pay this individual's wages and benefits.

Still reeling from the 'SEMA-Approved' cast iron dropped I beam axles that broke just outside the perch bosses.
I just shook my head at the denial that followed it. Like the owners were lying...?
    We're operating on a wing and a prayer...(self governing?)
    Maybe not every self.

VIN inspection is not an issue. There are private services.

Some of them will even help you fill out all the paperwork that you need, to make your DMV trip a short, smooth process.

Fees don't pay wages, that is not how it works in California. DMV employees draw a wage from the State, from allocated tax dollars.

  26. Notice the lack of steering stops.

  27. Replaced a home made ladder bar once
The guy welded the jam nut to the pipe
That was the only threads for the heim joint
And no other jam nut used.
