  1. ...just leave it alone, looks the best that way....if you clear it use flat clear.

I never give it much thought,an just found it interesting, for years. But the now trendy use has become over done to me. Real old ones for biz or racing still seem nice to me,but new others no matter what they say seem too fake mostly. A bit of a fine line thing.

What should vintage door art look like on a crewcab? Four door trucks were so uncommon back in the day, I don't have a concept of what commercial door lettering should look like on one. Every one I have seen was a government truck with a small logo on the front door and nothing on the rear.

My question is how to do it tastefully, so that it plausibly looks vintage?

My crew cab also has a Gem Top on it with no windows, so there is a lot of space on the side to work with.

Do a google image search for "Harry Tow". It's a crew cab tow truck that was lettered up many years ago and may be a good reference for you.

That's a great tip. It shows proper use of both doors for lettering.
It looks like they generally make the front door the primary space for graphics. Mine's a little different. I almost think the rear door should be the focal point on my blue truck?

They build about 400 of them. Maybe 60 are known to survive.

I think it will take a bit of thinking to come up with the right balance for your truck. In my mind, having the main artwork on the back doors will make it look imbalanced. I would go business name on the front and logo on the back, if you will have a logo. Something you can spread across both doors is my thought.

Think about where your eye goes first, and that's where the primary part of the lettering should be. Does it go to the front door or the back door?

    Hello,
Bones Balogh's 49 Chevy Fastback was a fast car in the gas coupe and sedan class. He was a master tuner and builder. The message on the doors: simple and to the point. The opponent always knew who and what he was up against during the eliminations. Later, in 1960, he upped his game with a 671 SBC with 6 Strombergs. But, still Isky, J&J Muffler, and a So Cal champion

By the time we were in C/Gas with our similar 671 SBC set up, he was in the B/Gas class.

I saw that truck at a show in White Rock last August! It's a very cool and well built truck! I don't believe it had the door art at the time. Very cool!

Thanks for the compliment. It has been a 14 year project that we completed last June and put 2,000 miles on it by Labour Day. The door art was completed on Saturday, the passenger door is completely different, film at 11.

Passenger door done, if you think you know what crop dusting is, have another look on Google and see what it means today. Ford ran two advertisements featuring Crop Dusters but those guys used airplanes.

This door was on a '31 A sedan that I bought back in 1999, never had the heart to paint it. It's been garage Art ever since!! IMG_1878[2828].jpg

  30. Nice truck. In the process of restoring a 1940 PT105 Plymouth truck. Just curious...I have a set of these wheels and wondering what they are original on. 5X5 bolt pattern 16"dis.
