Features Kustoms blues? I need to see some kustoms....

Simply put, Gene Winfield's "Solar Scene" Merc is one of the greatest Kustoms of all time.





The original was destroyed in a towing accident, but Gene has been building a clone (for what seems like forever),
as can be seen at the far left in this photo taken at his shop in 2011.

Well, Hell's Bells! How can I NOT include Satan's Angels member Frank Livingston's Bailon-built Chevy in this post???

 

I found these pic's of the 36 taken while I was changing the gas door and adding the skirts . customer provided a Haynes Gas door which was very flimsy , so I copied the design using heavier , stronger materials , repainted both rear fenders and some other repairs as well, which I can't remember exactly what they were .but here is before and during pics of the changes

Going through my photos of the road trip and found this one outside an old servo on Lincoln Highway. I was sent two others when on the road somewhere? I think on the way back to Santa Maria for WKC Cruising Nats. Do not know who took this picture but may have been a guy we talked with at Santa Maria who was travelling in his street car.

Geez, there's some meat on this platter!



I don't know if I ever saw Rod Powell's '58 Buick in convertible form.
From the Caddy fins, it looks like a later version than the one below.
Maybe they never got the rear glass worked out? (Seems a pity, either way.)



The '57 Chrysler is none other than the Cliff Inman, Joe Wilhelm-built Kustom icon...Under wraps for years by a private owner.
I seem to recall it emerging at some point painted teal blue with magenta (?) scallops!



And what more can be said about Harold Olsen's great Chevy... Other than it inherited his glass eye when he passed! (Mounted in the steering wheel.)

 

Where at? I was all over Salina last year on Friday and Saturday and don't recall seeing it anywhere!

It was painted a redish pink and was featured in Custom Rodder by some one in ? Nevada.

 

Yep, I think it was "finished" in Nevada. It ended up looking like this. I think it was sold after it was completed and ended up in Ohio. E

 

Looks like a new top. (I'll bet that rear window on the original was the bugger! )

 

Don`t think I`d ever seen a car with suicide doors and wing windows. Did the shop in Nevada also build a 55 Merc(orange with flames) with inserts cut in the rear quarters so the tail lights would fit in the rear quarters. Need to dig out my Custom Rodders.
