Maybe check Lincoln Versailes(sp?) I believe some of them came with disks stock, along with the 9 3/8". Also, if you can find the right length, standard 9" axles are a direct swap.

I know 76 lincoln continentals came with those vesailles had 9 inch ones the outside measurments seemed to big for most early applications also gears were 2.50's or so very tall parts are expensive did cut down one side and run 2 of the short axles but gearing killed it limited gear ranges for it

9 3/8" Fords came in 70-71ish era Thunderbirds and lincolns of the same chasiss family. They also came in a few trucks.

There are about 4 ratios available and they are not very easy to find. 2.50 (very common), 3.00 (also very common), 3.50 (very rare) and 4.10 (extremely rare from I've gathered). My brother has a traction-lok (super rare) 4.10 9 3/8" center housing. Internal parts are the same as a 9" (just all the bigger HD 9" stuff) and they are 31 spline.

If it's a complete rear end, from drum-to-drum, and you like the gear ratio, run it as-is.
Otherwise, it's a white elephant. I paid $100 to a racer back when I was 17 (which was HUGE money then!) for one of those centersections, before I knew enough about them. It took me a while, but I finally ended up eating it and just hauled it to the dump. When you find parts (gears, limited slip) they're really expensive.
Reider Racing is a good source of info on these, and may have some stuff for them.
The Versailles rear is a 9-inch, and is pretty narrow: fits in a '67-'69 Camaro, '55-'567 Chevy, etc. It's about 52 or 53 inches flange-to-flange if I remember correctly. I have one under a '56.

I think I have a Trac-Loc for one laying around, I'll have to double check.

Used across the full FOMOCO line in the 70's when having a 460 in a full size boat, plus some F150's. I dont know of any in 65 Galaxies that came stock. Most common ratio is 2.75 and performance choices are next to nil.

What differentiates it from a 9 inch?

The ring gear is 9 3/8", not 9" The carrier is slightly larger physically. The housing and axles are interchangable with standard 9" stuff. You can put a 9" in a 9 3/8" housing just fine, but you eill need to grind a 9" housing for ring gear clearance to put a 9 3/8" in a 9" housing.
