I love the Hirohata Merc, -it has to be one the classiest and best realized cutoms of all time, but that Bird is UGLY. Did he do any nice cars after the 50's?

Dean Jeffries built the Black Beauty (Green Hornet) and the Monkey-mobile and was offered a deal to buy them back from the studio after the shows were cancelled but he refused the offer. Barris the savy promoter bought them and has passed them off as his own for years.

The Batmobile was the Lincoln Futura dream car which Barris cut up. It would be nice to see somone buy back the original and restore it as the Futura.

  3. All VERY true, here is a evolution picture of the batmobile off a Batmobile web site.

somebody photshop that things to help it some. I don't have the skills or the computing power to do it myself. It would take serious work to de-funk that if at all possible.

Step 1, remove motor from said "custom" in question.
Step 2, push shell of same said "custom" somewhere where it will never hurt someone's eye's again. A river or lake is good for step 2.
Step 3, Build a nice hot rod and slide 'new' motor between the rails.

427 powered hotrod, and no more, umm, you know, that thing..

    Win win situation! :D:D:D

That thing is FUGLY and i don't give a damn who built it!

damn it... i've stared at this picture for a bit again, as i'd love to argue against those slamming it and saying is fucking ugly.

but, after trying to think outside the the normal box of what i like i've come to the conclusion.... this thing really is ugly.

i do want somebody to restore it though, and then i'd love to see it in person. most guys can admit that they've gotten fascinated with an ugly one in the past before, for some dumb reason-- and im pretty fascinated by this beast, for some dumb reason :D

Not my cuppa either, but it is pretty futuristic looking... and by that I mean 1972 futuristic.

i'd be curious to see photos of it when first built.

i swear this car was located in long beach last year. i used to see it in an old guys garage. at first i wondered if it was one of the turbine cares then realized it was a custom car....if its not the same car then its a twin.

second look, yelp still real ugly - not salvagable, crush it!

  12. well shit, I'd give the $250 scrap for it and throw it on eBay with no reserve. It may be one ugly POS, but I'm sure it would bring way more than that. You don't have to be able to see to bid.

I'd put it on Radirs with pinner whites and drive it everywhere.

I think it looks like the illegitimate love child resulting from a 3-way between a T-bird, the Batmobile, and a Citroen.

..and I mean it. I'd drive it daily. It's freaky and unusual, but definitely vintage and definitely American.

I don't think it's nearly as ugly as some of you obviously do. No uglier than, well...a Citroen. But part of me actually kinda digs it because, after that 3-way thing, I know it's a naughty, naughty car, and that has it's own appeal.

hi guys , well the tbird you guys have been posting about is now mine, so does anyone from here know of any more information on who built it from the adds on craigs list ive found from 2005 and 2007 says its a barris, but would like to know for sure , iam in Australia , I seen this car 8 years ago when it was brought from the states , to me I love it , she is still part of the custom history of the 60s , I plan to keep here that way, and she has stood the test of time 50 years on still no signs of shrinkage all metal modification on her and still that out there Egyptian themed interior, so if anyone from here please help shed some light on the builder for me I know for a fact that eddie leon from LA had it built in late 60s it has his name all over it even on the badge on the bonnet

I remember this post from the first time around... People seem to draw the George Barris name like a gun. Probably because everyone knows who he is.. with that said I do not think he built this car, but I can't tell you who and I never saw a pic of it in a magazine back in the day. Someone here who seems to be able to dig and find info is @Sancho , If anyone can figure it out he can....

Diggin' the exterior, but the inside(along with the low res shot, which may actually help on second thought) I couldn't live with.

    Yes, more photos, please.

  21. Well, I actually did look for information Rik posted this over on the Custom Car Chronicle.
I haven't been able to find anything yet.

I have been looking on the pictures and for me its looks like the
car was built in late 70:s early 80:s.
Turbine rims, Targa roof, square headlights, interior and the overall look makes me think so.
But it could be a older build that got updated later.

  23. I remember reading something about that car and a gentleman by the name of Jack Snell had said his son took photos of the car in Vacaville, where ever that is and the photo I saved has 2009.

At least it might be something to go on in your search. HRP

I'm no custom expert, but I'd say that thing was built in 1980, not the 60's.

Definitely has a Death Race 2000 vibe going for it, I like it. I'm really glad it's in the hands of someone who appreciates it's custom history and I hope you find out the history of it.

you guys might be on to something perhaps she was built later, but there was a trophy in the boot (trunk) that was 1968 , saying that could be off anything
