Sorry folks I had to change the music to stay on the right side of the law.
I was unable to re-sync the sound with the video but still not a bad thing to look at.

Looking for advice and suggestions. I have a 30 roadster cowl and some 4x2 and a welder. Soon I'll be tinkering on my spare 46 engine. It's got the hydromatic still attached which may have to make way for a smaller box. ?? What should I use?
Can presently see no foot room if I try and use it. Thinking about squeezing it in a model a frame but wondering if I should add some length to the rails. I have a Frank Burrell intake. Got a small alternator ( sacrilege but fits perfectly) to fit the original bracket. Very early days but it's a start.
    Got a 41 346 in my 39 custom. FB_IMG_1485380306667.jpg

Where can I follow your Bonneville antics? I used to follow your thread to garner as much information as I can for my 1940 restoration. I did get the blower manifold from Collin, and an adaptor plate to put a 6v73 on it, but I miss all the ingenuity and cool stuff you were doing

I found a really good body guy out in the Niagara region (Ontario Canada) gonna bring it down to bare metal and do it right. The engine is rebuilt but seized at the moment, i would love to build up the motor and possibly use period correct speed accessories, but only time and money will determine that

Here for what it worth, is a little video I made while confined at home.
Not all that interesting to the masses, but may help somebody with decisions to make about their Cadillac flathead project transmission wise.
If it provokes thought or you have something to add, please do so...

Long time lurker, infrequent poster. My 39 Cad block is currently at the machine shop getting bored .010 to .050. I would not have gone so big, but it was bored out to .040 already and was seized when I bought it. I have read a little about valve relief in Ford flatheads and was curious what the consensus was about relieving valves on the Cad block.

Fords are relieved because the valves are tilted down on the cylinder side and that looks like it restricts flow. I think Cads have the valves parallel to the cylinders and there would be no advantage to relieving a Cad.

Anyone know what plugs should be used with Edmunds heads? 39 Caddy 346. They are 14mm

H-10 Champion plugs work fine in my Cyclone Heads. They have 14mm. Get this tip from Cyclone Kevin...

Thanks for the H10 recommendation, do the Cyclone heads have the same plug reach as the Edmunds?

Hi there Russ.. one way to warm up the shed..

  23. The FlatCad Bonneville crew is just getting restarted on our blown flathead Cadillac engine. It has been in mothballs since we had a fire at Elmo about 6 years ago. I just started designing new pistons for the new incarnation - lots of fun work to do. The pistons are pop-ups . . . into the custom heads about .225 or so.

The FlatCad team plans to be back at Bonneville in 2023:

But no talk about the earlier caddy flatheads like the 1930 353 v8 that I picked up about a year ago. Supposedly came out of a wrecked car 70 some years ago and has been stored inside since. Got the heads off and the cylinders are like new. Engine turns freely. Bet it would run as is but I think its best to disassemble, measure and inspect everything before I build something around it. Got a service manual for it and it shows that it came stock with roller lifters. How cool is that? But no, nada, zip aftermarket speed products that I can find for it. Guess I'll have to make my own. Came complete with the tranny. Supposedly the first production trans with syncros. And the dual disc clutch makes it even cooler.

  29. You should post pics of the block, internals, etc. I'm interested in just seeing what the beast looks like inside!

  30. Supposedly we're finally getting the custom pistons back from the Manufacturer this coming week or so. Let the quest begin!
