I’m new to the forum and may take a while to get used to using it. My first car was a 64 Galaxie 500 XL. Was bought new by my parents and pasted down to my sister brother and them me. I’m the car guy in the family and went to town with cragers and big tires, this was 1974. I loved the car but after some time I traded it off for something different but always regretted selling it. I recently found another different color than mine but had all the same options, p/s,p/b and air conditioning. I just retired and plan on redoing it when money allows and time. My car has a descent body but needs all new interior and trunk floor is gone. I found the other day a guy that has a 63 factory 4 speed car and a 64-4 door 500 XL. The 64 was in really good shape with the 390 fresh built. What really caught my eye is when I opened the door first thing I saw was a factory looking lever by the drivers seat and ask the guy what that was, it was a factory trunk release and then I noticed that it had the Slide Away steering column. I was wondering value of this car, it has the XL interior with console and column shift. He is asking $4000.00.

  3. $4000 is on the low end for a complete Galaxie. Cool options are always a plus. I have had 2 1964 Country Sedans and 1 1964 Galaxie XL500 convertible.

  4. I have had a 64XL convertible, standard 64 2 door hardtop and a 63 square top hardtop. The 64 XL has always been one of my favorites. I sold the 64 fastback a couple of years ago for $3000 and it wasn't running so I think the car you describe is well worth more than 4 grand.

Thanks for the input, I’m going back to see him before long. I didn’t see the other cars he had but said he had 3 more 64’s at another spot. He wanted $4500.00 for the 63 factory 390-4 speed car with factory console. It also had fresh motor. If i could get both cars for $7000.00 would that be a good deal?

Sounds like a good deal to me. A friend recently picked up a very clean 63 boxtop galaxie, 260 3 spd. He paid double what you have found. For parts take a look at Macs or Dennis Carpenter, there are several companies selling replacement parts, interior trim etc.

Good looking Galaxie,Von Zipper. The one I bought had the top with the chrome at the back of the top, were those vinyl tops or textured paint?

Two cars with rebuilt 390s? If really rebuilt , there's no question if the value is there.

The cars are in Arkansas, the 64 was exceptionally clean inside, best I can remember one bucket seat needed a spot restitched and carpet replaced. The body was straight and no rust visible from what I could see from looking under it. The body was straight but you have to remember I wasn’t looking at this car for anything but some parts. I wasn’t thinking of redoing a 4 door but after seeing all options it had it is a 4 door car I want. I wasn’t looking for a 63 so didn’t pay much attention to it but did notice it was straight and all there. Both cars run and have titles. I’m about 2 1/2 hrs from cars and told the guy I’d run back next week to look at closer and get pictures. I will post pictures when I get them. What states are y’all from and are you 63 and 64 Galaxie guys?
