My father and I went to TROG in 2015. Dad said "that's one of the coolest events I've ever been to" , I had to agree.
I thought it was such a great event that I even needed be part of it all.
Soooo, I sold my '53 Chevy and bought myself a stock '31 Roadster from a family friend just over a year ago to turn into a Race of Gentlemen contender. Hopped her up a bit, sent in my entry and hoped for the best.
I got accepted to attend and decided that instead of me driving, I thought my Dad would really love to run down the beach. He's a 75 year old real deal Hot Rodder.
He knew it was my Birthday,
but it I thought I'd reverse things a bit, an early Fathers day surprise would be kinda cool.
So I sneakily got a photo of him and submitted it for the program, asked that the TROG crew not post it on social media. Made sure he wanted to meet me in Jersey to "watch me run", He lives in Pa. and I live in Florida. I asked Mel if he would tell him on the day of registration. He said yes, and everything went as planned!!
We had a great weekend thanks to Mel and his crew.

Here are a few photos and a couple videos of quite a memorable weekend.

Seemed like he was having a blast.

Very cool. The name sounds familiar. Didn’t he build a cool mid-engine v-8 bus? I read about it somewhere.

Yes Sir Pat, that's my Pops.
His non HAMB friendly bus was in Hot Rod a few times
and a Summit Racing Catalog Centerfold too!!
He drove that bus from Erie Pa, to Bonneville and back.
Like I said, A real deal Hot Rodder. :) hrdp_0603_bus_01_z-1962_vw_bus-side_view.jpg
