It needs to be rebuilt, but I can't get the sheet metal off and I don't want to destroy it, would someone please help me.
    Thanks

If you are 100% sure it was a GM pickup...then it must be from the era of the 67-72 style cab. I do not know the exact year of the first tilt column in those years

66 & older trucks had no tilt option, and 73-up had a key switch.

I took the single switch out & the wheel off, after market.

  7. The top sheet metal round cover slips straight off. At the base of it there should be a small detent so it can only go back on one way. Use a small screwdriver or razor blade to get it started. It's a tight slip fit.

  8. You can also lightly tap the sheet metal piece off by using a mall punch in the oval hole where the tilt lever goes and tap it towards the top of the column.

Made this years ago when putting a 67 Camaro tilt column in my 67 Nova.

FYI, those 70-72 Chevy/GMC truck tilt columns have gotten pretty hard to find, I put one in my 66 Suburban in the 90's, they were hard to find then, have gotten quite expensive compared to the 73 and up version.
