  4. This thread does two thing to me. First it makes me sad that I couldn't be there and Second happy that I can see the fun going on there. In my opinion Mike Nicholas and his crew have captured the essence of hot-rodding with this event and the Hot Rod Hill climb. This is what we are supposed to be doing with these creations, having fun!

As I stood(not fun) in the parking lot of Black Hills Harley yesterday for a car show, (I am anti-car show but haven't done much lately so I thought I'd go.) I asked myself, "Why am I here?" Then I though to myself, the HRHC is coming!!!

Thanks Dan for capturing what it's all about. By the way I am the guy with the primer gray '51 Hudson. We spoke at the beginning of the HRHC Reliability Run last year.

You Are 100% correct Ken. I went to a cruise in on Tuesday and was bored. After a lifetime of going to different car events the Dirt Drags and the Hill Climb are by far the most fun events I have ever been to. Its a "living" show. you get to hear the cars run and see them drive. Cant wait for September! let me know when you get back down to Cheyoming Ken. I believe I owe a dinner.

Thanks a lot Ken (@Racer29) - it really was a tremendous amount of fun and for the most part good photo conditions too. I too am getting more burned out on car shows for the most part because of selfish reasons (it gets harder and harder to get what I consider a decent shot with all the awnings (my biggest nemesis) and chairs and often too many people in the way and cars in the way of other cars and so forth. I look forward to seeing you at the Hill Climb in September. Thanks also to you @scoop and Woog (@Woogeroo) Scoop - you might want to consider bringing your car to the Hot Rod Hill Climb in September. Same type of even, same great people running it and attending.

Note that there are kids in each of these A's who I'm sure were having a blast.

Three days of the event, three entirely different sets of conditions. This is a Friday night shot - tons of dust and smoke from relatively distant forest fires. The image above was good representation of Sunday morning - overcast, a little rain, etc. All the shots you see with bright blue skies are from Saturday where the weather was truly magnificent, by my standards anyway, about 79 -80 degrees, a slight breeze, no humidity. If there just would have been clouds instead of a plain blue sky - it would have been perfect.

A 3 way that shows that a lot of different kind of races occurred. This may not even have been a race per se, but rather a race of the 2 bikes against each other while the '40 ran at the same time in the other lane.

That Kawasaki is 1975-76 race only, never sold for the street KX. Nice to see one out, and about.

There was a cool old Mack truck there, unfortunately where I could not get what I consider a decent picture of it, but I was able to get a shot of its very unusual double bulldog hood ornament.

I think just the amount of raw energy, humour and spirit she puts into her flag girl and other activities keeps her young.

  25. Well Dan, I'm still bummed that I couldn't make it this year but your pictures do help ease the pain a little! Thank you for what you do, I for one greatly appreciate it! Hopefully I'll see you at the Hill Climb, my nephew Mike and his wife are planning on meeting us there. See you in September. Kinda sounds like a song title doesn't it? Later... Jim

Mud flying everywhere and you can tell they're having fun. When I first saw this picture ( the bottom one is a closeup crop of the top one), I said OMG how did that much dirt get on my sensor noticing all those black dots all over the pictured, but then realized it wasn't on my camera but a result of the truck who is winning this race and this A throwing up mud all over on a run right after the water truck went over the track to reduce the dust temporarily.
