Features UPDATE! Model A Hot Rod Built in 63

A few months ago I was looking on Craigslist for Model T parts, and this coupe showed up at the top of the page. I skipped it, then went back for some reason a couple minutes later to check it out. Only a few pics, bright red Model A, looked like a stocker, but a bad pic of the interior showed something different. I tried to blow it off, wasn’t looking to buy any car at all, but it was buggin me. Long story short, I had to at least go look. Well, guys dad built it when he was 16 in Tucumcari NM in about 1963. Son didn’t know a whole lot, except that soon after, guy and his friend bought another coupe and put all their efforts into it. So the coupe sat, but years later pops would pull it out for rodeo parades. At some point, it was in an accident, there are some minor dents but the frame was really screwed up. To the point that someone tried some frame grafting/repair that was horrible. After that, it sat in the garage and got passed down to the son. Well, now it sits in mine, frame/motor had to be replaced, along with most of the undercarriage,(it was all just crap) but I’ve kept every single thing I could, and ive used only parts and methods of construction that I thought the kid would have had available then. It really is a time capsule, and a real live what every kid wants kind of American hot rod coupe, although I feel like the kid was a lil behind the times because it seems more like it was styled in 1956 rather than 63. I’m not going to call it a “BF”, or the “S” word, because not all of it survived. The first couple pics are as it sits on new frame, with a mock up motor still in it. It’s missing bumpers, headlights, and a few things. These pictures obviously don’t show it all, like the filled and peaked roof! Should be done within a couple months, I’ll keep ya posted!

That looks like a '53 Ford radio, but I could be wrong, as '53 Fords were still 6 volts

 

That looks to be a '52 Ford radio, shame you can't get much on AM these days LOL. The chrome mouldings look great, too! Edit, Jim you came in a minute ahead of me , '53 could be the same ; but that's identical to the one in my '52 Customline.

Neat car. I wouldnt feel bad at all about fixing the chassis. Most rods built back then were hacked together by young guys with less than perfect skills and even less tools. The spirit of the car is still there and now it will actually be useable.
