Here is a tank I made for my roadster after a visit to my local plumbing supply house (the big box stores don't typically carry the large pipe) . I used 1 1/2" dia copper pipe 13" long which will hold 12 fluid ounces (my guy was willing to sell me just the length I needed). I soldered in a hose barb on the side to accept the rubber hose from the radiator and came up with some fittings to adapt a 1/4" NPT petcock on the bottom to drain it. The top cap is removable and vented by drilling some holes in it. For those who want an old timey look the copper can be polished up or in my case I will probably paint it black. Total cost for me was about 25 bucks. Thanks for looking!
Seems a shame to paint it black. Why not clear coat it or just let it take on a patina like copper does?
Nice, instead of just venting the top like that you could sweat another hose barb onto it and run that down under the car, so if it ever fills up and runs over it won't blow all over your engine bay. I fabbed up an over flow tank out of an aluminum water bottle. 2 holes in the top, copper tubing from the radiator to the bottle, and from the bottle down in front of the axle (runs below the axle) . The "In" tube runs down to the bottom of the bottle, maybe 1/4" off the bottom. "Out" tube extends down maybe 1" from the top. I covered both in black wiring loom because I didn't want to deal with keeping them polished.
Its great to see all the different styles and materials used for these bottles/ canisters. This a full pressure one I made for my T. It has a small radiator cap bonded inside the brass cap, works a treat. JW
LOL I got a Super Bowl XL mini keg ( 2 liters I think) if you prefer something a little more classy. Its probably Budwiser though.
Here's mine. Made from 1 1/2" aluminum conduit with ends welded on and the whole thing turned in a lathe. It has a siphon tube so it's a recovery tank, too. Gary
