Projects Introducing the Father's Day Flyer Model T modified build

It's the one year anniversary of my dad's passing today. We bought this T and pile of parts 2 years ago on Father's day, and it was going to be the project he could supervise me on LOL
Anyhow on to the pictures!

It's a 26 or 27 T roadster tub, I'm leaning more 26 because of the screws holding the door sils, but it has 2 positions for the cowl vent. Can you guys confirm a year better?

It came with a 48 front axle, and the rear may have been converted to open shaft.
Any way to confirm that?

I've got this 301 Poly I rescued, and an adapter scattershield I got from @RichFox which will be followed up with a M21 dad had in his 65 Chevelle

All 3 generations of us got to discuss a project scope.

The plan is a modified flavor. I want a boat tail and a Duvall ish windshield, my son wants a blower to look around, and dad wanted it to be loud and fast!

My son and I can pull that off!

BTW, that was not a cowlvent, it was access to the gas filler cap... but may be one now...

 

I want to design a new frame for it.
My son is smarter than me, so he suggested we scan the body and all the major components. That way I can get the basic shapes to work with

If that's gas filler and the tank is in the factory spot below the seat how does the gas get there @sloppy jalopies ?

Thommy, looks like a cool start. Id ditch that grille shell for something smaller, but that's just me. I have my 23 Touring car sitting and waiting for my parts pile to get big enough to start working on it. Tub builds always catch my eye

 

@Gearhead Graphics I think the earlier Ts had the tank under the seat (probably what the tank I have is) one of the major changes for 26-27 was a cowl tank.

Agreed, depending on how my boat tail idea pans out, I might want a track nose.

depends on year and model,
the later Ts, '26-'27, had the tank mounted under the cowl...
any T with an arched cowl was a '26-'27 ...above pix are of an arched cowl...
some fordors and '24 and older had under seat tanks...
they were the ones that when low on gas or had to go up steep hills they went in reverse...

 

I would say by the doors its a 27. I have 26 and the area where the door hinge is a bit different.

 

It's a late '26 or a 1927 with the raised ring around the side curtain hole on the top of the door. Nice project! Bob

The first step it to get her legitimate. Colorado has a process to title projects like this, it's called a rebuilders title.
First step is to make it a "ROLLER" and I should have enough parts to do that now.

Just checking to see that you have the ring gear on the proper side after that 180% turn of things, and there may be a wheel cylinder left & right deal too. Bob

I'll tear it down someday and verify all that.

 

That is an open drive conversion on a closed drive rear that's had its bells reversed. That stud on the one side is for the panhard bar.

Those look like 27 doors to me.

I'd sell that truck grille and get a 28/29 shell and a radiator with the proceeds.

 

Step one, had a date with the state patrol today.
At least I knew enough (thanks to your help) to explain to him why it's a 27.
Step two is to go back to the dmv and file papers

While I water for step 2, I'm playing with getting 3D geometry. I'm trying photogrammetry out, but it's touchy to lighting changes evident by the hole in the driver's side.

The brake backplates, wheel cylinder and brake shoe arrangement all look good to my eye.

Just got back from taking my wife camping. I snuck the laptop with me and we had a few rainy days, so I continued designing. Just trying to get a feel for all my ideas piled together

 

That would be pretty tits with the boat tail!

 

The size of the holes on the inside of the doors tell the year. Henry shut the factory down in April or May of 27 so most of those are 26s. You can search the Model T sites for door hole sizes

 

Side curtain rod hole on the door top is another clue. The 1926 is a plain hole, the 1927 had a raised ring pressed around it. Bob

 

Both image renderings are very nice.In hot rod red would be the cats meow.
