    Sky Six -

I owned and drove a short wheelbase (90") car for about ten years. While it didn't have the blown horsepower, it was a handfull to drive. The owner after me had a hard time getting people to drive for him any more than one race at a time..!
So yea, I have a reasonably good idea, and not afraid to be behind the wheel of a blown altered.

1 opps.JPG I wonder if the car above that chopped down the christmas tree is the same car as Kanners took to a class win and street eliminator at Indy in 67? The car Kanners drove was owned by Neil "Pappy" Ellis and was allegedly a cut down Cheetah with a Logghe chassis. When I spoke to Ron Reader (Midwest Auto Parts-Berkley Mi.) who sponsored the car prior to Indy and at Indy in 67 he said they had problems with the 57 Corvette they entered and they took the engine out of it and put it in the Ellis car. The Kanners Ellis car is still referred to in some writeups like Larry Davis' Gasser Wars as a 57 Corvette.

I have other pictures of the Ellis car but this pic seems to have the same windshield so it has me wondering. Also the General Kinetics sticker makes me wonder as well since that was a cam of choice to some of the Woodward guys (admittedly not exclusively). 67nats011.jpg DaveKannersNationalsIndy1967-1.jpg

Bruce I remember that thread although since I have not researched the car to any great extent my conclusions may not carry any weight. I have a blurb posted on Yellow Bullet back in 2012 by Dan Ellis (Neil Ellis's son) looking for his dad's car that he claimed was a Chevy Cheetah flip top body on a Logghe chassis. I have also a note that it carried a BBC with a prototype fuel injection system by Jim Kinsler.

I am not sure how many of these similar bodies there were. I have some memory of the car but not much more to ID it any way. Here is another picture of it at Motor City in the same time frame. Midwest Auto Parts is on the front panel although it is a bit hard to read.

And another pic I believe is Indy 67. Neil Ellis's name is on the car and was on the entry although Kanners drove the car. From my discussion with Ron Reader, Kanners was scheduled to drive the 57 Midwest Vette but when they had problems with it and switched engines they also switched drivers on the Ellis/Midwest sponsored car. The tall stacks had been on the 57 Vette engine. Kanners IRP67.jpg

It is definitely not a Cheetah body on the Ellis car.

Roo I agree that it is probably not a Cheetah and that is why I used the term allegedly and quoted his son's terminology. To me it looks more like a kit car and the picture that Bruce posted (GearheadsQCE) seems similar. I am not familiar enough with all of the kit car manufacturers of the era but I would not be surprised if was a kit.

It is definitely one of the Logghe bodies as mentioned in the thread link posted by GearheadsQCE. Not a kit per se but evidently some limited production of the bodies.

Cool shot of John Rocca's coupe. I grew up in DC but that was a little before my time and I never knew it existed. I'm guessing that's the same Johnny Rocca that was an early pro mod and match race guy in the '80s - 2000s? Raced a 33 Willys and a chopped Merc.

I'm pretty sure that the Midwest Auto Parts car is a Logghe body. It is not clear to me how many of these were made. The original was a senior project for the Art Institute. One is being restored by AAA Restorations in Minnesota. That one is the car found in the thread I linked to. Looking at the Midwest car, I would guess that it was pulled from the same molds. The major differences I see are the molded in quarters with the big radius cut out for the slicks.

Be nice to know how many were ever made.

Bruce is there any racing history with the car being restored?
