A used car lift is just that-used. Possibly very well used. Do you want to get under a very well used lift with a car under it? Plus you could spend more getting the lift action repaired than a new one would cost. I would suggest having any used lift full checked out by a qualified technician before you purchased it.

Buy a 4 post... best purchase I've made in years. Should have done it sooner!

Beats crawling around on a hard floor!

I've owned three over the years, both 4-post and 2-post. Each has distinct advantages and disadvantages. You can see more about this in the thread mentioned above. Regardless of which you end up with, I like to tell those that have never owned one, to be careful and respect it for what it is. One of the local car enthusiast in my area got aggressive working under one of his cars and shook it off of the lift. He never made it out from under the car in time.................They are wonderful tools when used properly but can be very dangerous if not.

I love my lift, I can't live without it! If I work off the ground, I kinda want to keep lying there.... LOL

If not planning on stacking cars, could you just position posts between trusses like this web pic? [IMG]

Do a search on the Garage Journal, this question comes up all the time and is usually not as complicated as people think.

Just finished the installation of a Bend Pak HD-7P Tuesday. It had features I liked and was in my price range. It was also sized to fit in the space I had. It is a 7000 lb high lift which will work for stacking cars. I have a 12.6 ft ceiling. I bought it from and had it installed by a reputable lift company out of Omaha and glad I did. Not sure what the opinion of Bend Pak is on here (I know it's foreign made) but the local trade school has some and they seem to work good for them.

My buddy's outdoor lift on which he built a roof. DSC08762-001.JPG When it's all the way down, the roof laps over the gutter on his shop.

My buddy purchased a 4 post hoist from some company in AZ which when not in use it drops down onto some wheel gizmo's and can be moved out of the way.
I always thought that would be a good outside unit that can also be moved inside when required or make a drive in bay clear.

Another great thing about the Maxjax.
You can position it in the front and rear to lift the car. Giving full access to the sides for back pain free block sanding for example. IMG_5446.JPG

The 51 Ford is sitting on a Ranger Quickjack . Completely portable for use inside or out.
I use it for brake jobs or just to put the car at a better height for cleaning.

Please don't laugh at my ignorance but what is a boogie board? Seriously. Sounds like something I could use.

Boogie board, belly board, surf rider. All the same. Styrofoam flotation device used to surf the waves on your belly. Some have a hard plastic covering but I use the ones without any covering, easier on the knees. Some guys use kick boards since they're smaller but usually are made of a harder material. 23. Bought a Rotary Evolution lift. Had it about 8 years.
Wish I’d bought a second now that I’m 71 years old and not inclined to ride horizontal on a creeper any IMG_2731.JPG IMG_1718.JPG longer.
It’s great for stacking cars and an answer to making work a whole lot easier.

Went with a direct lift. Had to have the garage door rails brought to as high as they could go and had a lift master side motor installed. Have a low ceiling, hence the lo boy. IMG_1446.JPG

I did the same thing...built a car port-type roof over my lift and welded it to the lift so it goes up and down with the lift. The area I have available is so limited, it was about the only solution I could think of to provide a somewhat sheltered parking place for another car since all my garage space is spoken for. It works great. Car Port 4-13-18 003.JPG Car Port 4-13-18 001.JPG Car Port 4-13-18 007.JPG Car Port 4-14-18 002.JPG Car Port 4-14-18 003.JPG

Yup. It's life-changing. Seriously, after I bought it and worked with it for a while, I got to thinking about all of the other dumb shit I spent the same (or more) amount of money on and felt like a total buffoon for not doing it sooner.

    185026910_10106965483731674_6249804995423988013_n.jpg

Foe example, in this picture, I was replacing all of the gaskets on my rear axle and the pinion seal, and replacing a pair of universal joints. This was a clean and no-nonsense job with the proper equipment that I was able to quickly move through in a couple evenings of work. This would have been a pain in the ass crawling around on the ground like an animal.
