Art & Inspiration Car Names, What Did You Name It?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chappy444, Jun 1, 2018.

  1. Good morning all.
I did a quick search and couldn't find this subject covered in any one thread.
this morning I read a recent post by a guy that named his car after the folks he bought it from. I thought that was pretty cool and it got me thinking that I must not be the only person that names my cars.
With that said, did you name your car? what did you name it? and why?
I will start with my latest.
    My 1931 Model A couple with a V8 flatty
    I call it Rocinante.
Rocinante is Don Quixote's horse. He is awkward, past his prime, and pressed into service that may be beyond his capabilities. (much like the owner...lol)
    How about you?

Talk to Mctim (Y Block Guy) he has a name for almost everyone of his Model A collection and others,,,, Jake the racing Truck, Ruby the Roadster. I am not making fun of him,, I can just never think of a name for one of our cars,,, ok there is Morrie the '59 Morris Minor Traveler, not too original.

  3. Miss Eva- only car I've ever named- 100_2136.JPG
Came to me already named- Hillbilly- 100_2123.JPG

  4. We laugh a lot and call my Crosley build a Can of Beans. You would have to sit in it I suppose.
That name my stick but it started as a joke.

The Pusher got called that as a play on my coming of age time and the fact that it was originally destined to be a push truck. It was originally called The Pusher Man and got shortened down to something more reasonable.

I do not normally set out to name a vehicle but it happens anyway.

  5. Went off to school in'67 dad sold my '53 Stude coupe...Called it gone.

I'm not big on naming cars. I call my coupe "the hot rod" or "the coupe", as in "hey, why don't we take the coupe out for a drive?"

My wife's brothers are car naming people so I suppose that's where she gets it from. She calls the coupe "Cooper".

My 1955 1st Series Chevy pickup is named "BillyBob'. I often think of my father and grandfather and brother when I'm behind the wheel in this pickup. It's the reason I named the truck "BillyBob." My brother's name is William Craig Kephart and my father's was Robert Joseph Kephart . . . "Billy" and "Bob" worked on this truck together before I got it.

My 1937 Chevy pickup is named "Deerslayer". I first saw it at the Macungie truck show in 2007. The truck belonged to Hamber "Truckedup" at the time and it sustained damage when a deer came out of the Pennsylvania woods and slammed into the driver's side of the truck while Arlyn Unrein and Tony were on a performance run. Hence, the nickname "Deerslayer" for both the truck and Arlyn, who was behind the wheel at the time. Seemed a better name than "Bambi Killer".

The Vette, The 36, The Willys, The Coupe, The Stude, Subie (OT wifes daily), Ruby (OT jeep), Whitey ( OT daily driver). All of them have been referred to as f*&# POS, at some time or another.
When you have too many, ya gotta call them something, "what are we driving tonight?"

  14. I have found that every car I have ever owned (worked on) respond differently to certain combinations of swear words. you just have to keep swearing at it until you find the correct combination...

  20. The A and the 51. I'm not too creative. :)

  21. Given the fact that I decided that a Pontiac/GTO/"The Judge" hood mounted tach was the thing to do (HATE to see tachs hanging off the steering column, and nowhere else to put it), It occurred to me that "The Judge" was appropriate...Thought about "Judge Jeanine", but decided against it......

  25. "Honey" when it running good and "Bitch" when it's not, this seems to apply to every car that I've owned. :D

  26. ( A STORY ) The only Rod I have with a name is my 29 coupe. Sometime in the 80's I pulled into a Mc Donald's this sweet little old lady asked me what I was driving. I told her it was an old Ford. But now it's just a Hot Rod. She said, I thought it was a U.F.O. landing. Lol So I painted it on the rear deck lid, and on the tags also. The name just stuck. 20180601_132642.jpg 20180307_070344.jpg

Mine is the "BIG RED 1". That's right! The 1st Infantry Division.

It's what we call it even though it's not painted yet.

  29. "Snoopy", because that's what the previous owner named it (after his girlfriends favorite t-shirt) & I'm a bit superstitious to go renaming a car - the other 3 cars (not HAMB friendly) are Midge, Bridget & Patty.
