We drove down that street in 71, pissed as newts and going fast enough that two hubcaps departed the car. ( We didn't go back for them).
I don't know when it was closed to traffic, but it will always be a special memory.
Flying back to TX, we were lucky enough to a see a large missile launched from Vandenburg AFB. It seemed to be right beside us at 43,000ft. It is one of the most impressive sights I have ever seen.

I looked at the 56 for a long time trying to decide didn't know the plate was a new one LOL

 

Came down the street in 1972. GMC with a 10 foot camper.
That first dip over the top with nothing in front of you!
My daughters still talk about the scary view from the camper.
Sure wish I had a picture.

 

Back in the 70s and 80s we would travel between Las Vegas, Nevada to Las Vegas, NM quite a bit... and my dad usually liked to travel at night. He would listen to a station called KOMA, I believe out of Oklahoma City? We would listen to it from Hoover Dam all the way to New Mexico. This pic made me think of that...
