Ray Orbit car, purchased by my dad in the 50's, sold to go to college. Car was found in the Redding area about 10 years ago (rusty), built back to original paint, pin stripping (Zeller), from 50's. Flathead replaced with Chevy. Before photos to come.

I saw on this and several others, the chrome side pipes all had covers at the tips. My Dad's 50' did as well, but i put in cut offs to have the option and took the cover off. Is there a reason this era of cars did not use the pipes?

most times they were just dummies used to make the car look even lower. a lot of times if you look you'll see both, lake pipes mounted on the sides and dual exhaust running out the back.

  7. Some times they are hooked up without cut-outs. That way the exhaust runs through the mufflers and out the back.
Take off the caps and the lake pipes are wide open. I know of a few done this way.

More often than not they are dummy pipes. Just for the look.....

  19. I have always loved the side trim job, but originally the bumpers were not well though out when first put on. I don't have any good photos and even Rod and Custom did a good job hiding it, but there was a huge gap between the trunk and the bumper since the 56 sat farther back. It wasn't till the 80's when my grandfather finally made a panel to fill the gap and then in 93 with the trunk was pancaked was it actually fitted to the body.

I have been a fan of this car since the little pages. The car was a winner from the gate, and has only improved.
It is a real thrill to have your updates. Thanks so much for sharing!

1954 Belair, 4/6 chop, Buick taillights, bagged, extra grill teeth, Caddy hubcaps, old spotlights. I tried to recreate a 50s custom that was left for dead then put back on the road. 20180428_110440.jpg 20180428_110609.jpg

Belongs to Gary Fountain (or did). Starlite Rod & Kustom did at least some of it.
