I know this post is from 8 years ago but they should be vents. Yes the "antennas"themselves did nothing. Back in the day the complaint was that they also let in the rain.
Never forget seeing one just like the one Bleach posted above back in '65 at a used car dealer in Peoria Il. Had the gold anodized inserts. What a beauty. Of course I was just a high-schooler and didn't have the $500 they were asking for it. Couple of years later, I did get a '58 Monterey 2-dr hardtop. Nice car. But heavy! On the TP Cruisers, I had read about those front vents being a real problem when it rained too.
Yeah the vents let in air. With the rear window down it is said to be a part of the "flow through ventilation". My engine is getting detailed too, and we added another turnpike cruiser emblem to the other valve cover. It is a wild car for sure, and you never see them.
uhm... what do you see when looking into the mirror(s) ? the big one is the back-end of a spotlight, right? were those a factory option or after-market?
If that's your dream car, then what the hell, go for it. We all know that there are going to be issues, yours will be no different. Most car guys expect to fix their car every once in awhile. My 57 Fairlane has problems occasionally just to mess with me. Get it, enjoy it, and love it when people come up and ask what the heck it is.
Saw a 2-door for sale locally around 4 years ago. 100% complete but heavy rust everywhere. On top of the fenders, floor hanging down. Not enough meat on the bone to part it out at $6500. I wonder where it went.
Passing eye mirrors were for the old two lane roads. It is a period correct accessory. It looks so cool on there. I cannot wait to replace the bias ply tires and go on a road trip. That old 368 has so much torque.s
