So, im tearing into this 35 coupe after having the shell blasted and primed, so i know exactly where the rot is. Got patch/repair panels and a complete floor from ems. Patch panels seem pretty good. Then i started laying out the floor panels. The original floor looks like its wrapped over the chassis, down the sides then picks up on the body mounts etc. The ems floor wont be wide enough to do that . Do you guys just weld the floor to the body or mount the floor to the chassis then attach the body to the chassis? I was going to do the body repairs then brace and lift the shell off the chassis ? Sorry if these sound like dumb questions but i gotta get this right. Im guessing there probably isnt a right or a wrong way, but you guys have done this loads more times than i. Pics for attention as i probably havnt explained myself very well. Sent from my LG-K520 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What your talking about over the sides are subrail. Need to get a new set of subrails, they'll complete the equation.
I have the rocker panels. So are you saying there's another panel that attaches to the end of the rocker panel in behind the b post ? Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Those will connect the a pillar to the b pillar fine with a little work. You still need the rest of the rockers though. Both McPherson Auto in Kansas and I believe Roadster Ute in Orange or Anaheim California use to make them but I’m not sure if they still do. You may be able to modify some Drake or Carpenter 40 Ford ones too. These are what tie the floor and outer sheet metal together and where it all bolts to the frame Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's great info ,thank you. Do you have a web link please as I'm struggling to find one. Plenty of rockers but no sub rails. Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What transmission are you running ? I did a 35 for a customer and had a C-4 and had buggered up floor pans. Converted to an AOD and had to make a bigger tunnel. They look good painted yellow.
Drawn a blank so far. I'm just wondering if it's just a plain z shape, across the floor down the side of the chassis then connects to the bottom of the b post ? Anyone got a pic please, may help me folding a new panel. Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
On a side note. Are you sure the lower rear quarter repair panels are correct? They look short to me. The ones I got curled just round the b pillar and welded in where the door closes.
Hi Bob. Yes I've cut it short because I've got to do a repair on the door pillar and didn't want to lose the belt line reference. Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Take a look at the page. It is for 37-40 pieces , you might be able to modify to work for you. http://dennis-carpenter.com/car32-48rocker-panels/c/2319/
Thanks Uncle Buck. At least that gives me something to work from. Sent from my SM-A520F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
McPherson Auto sells on ebay. They only have 33-34 subrails listed now. I bought some 35 subrails from them about 10 years ago, they seemed pretty nice. It wouldn't hurt to ask. https://www.ebay.com/usr/mcphersonauto?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Dave
Shoot, I’m 6 months late on this one. I’m doing things the hard way with mostly Ford tin. I separated the body from the floor and subrails on my ‘35 3 window and rebuilt both. Pics: Hopefully this is helpful if you’re not already done with your floor/subrail project. There are probably more pics in my build thread for my coupe.
