How much clearance is needed to avoid heat damage from tailpipes to painted body panels and/or painted frame members ? I have a few tight spots in my car that I am afraid are going to get too hot and may need something done for protection.

And, what have you guys used on pipes or panels in those areas that are too close??
    Thanks for any suggestions.

If they're out of sight the header wrap works quite well. I've used it on a lot of different applications.

What kind of tail pipe temperatures are you getting?

Don't know. Haven't fired up yet. Just want to get ahead and prevent damage if I can.

There are a few spots where the tailpipe is about 1" from the frame.
A real concern is that the headers are about 2" from the inner fenders in a couple spots.
Using small mufflers, but frame modifications make the whole exhaust system a challenge. There are areas on both mufflers that are about 3/8" to 1/2" from the frame on one side of the muffler.

  7. The engine to muffler will be the hottest, after that you should have no problem with heat. My mufflers are with in 1/2 inch of the frame and I haven't burned any paint.

Agreed, tailpipes actually run pretty cold, you won't hurt a thing.
