we surprised Ed by showing up to his favorite burger joint in hopes that he would be eating there that day. Sure enough, he showed and what an honor/day this was
Congratulations Mr. Hotrod and good on you guys for Honoring him with such a special surprise...priceless.
Good thing you gave him the letterman jacket. It might have been a little uncomfortable if you gave him one of the yellow Schnieder Tshirts!
I had the privilege of meeting Jake, one of the Bean Bandits from Ramona, Ca. back in '14. Me and my buddy Randy were on a road trip from Texas to the Marchmeet and stopped by to visit his brother Ron who lives in Ramona. Ron and Randy are both old Drag racers. At breakfast one morning I mentioned to Ron that I'd like to find a Flathead for my then project '46. He said this guy named Jake has some flathead stuff, he has a shop across town, it's an old Ready Mix plant. After introductions, Jake was kind enough to take us on a tour of his place, OMG, Flatheads lined up from here to there, each one with a different induction set up on it. Thought I was in Flathead Heaven! Also got to see his Bonneville '53 Ford. I offered to trade one of my 348's for one of his streetable flatheads, he said he didn't own a boat there for he didn't need an anchor! LOL. It was an experience I won't soon forget. Hope to get to Bonneville to see him run that flathead powered '53. Thanks Jake!!
Glad to know Old Five Cycle's still kicking. No doubt about it, he will make a perfect Bean Bandit. Question, though: with him now part of the club, you guys get a discount?
