I am looking to replace my block hugger headers on my Model A with a small block Chevy, but I am look to see if there a direct replacement so I can just bolt them in. Can anyone s such an animal. I don't know the maker of my headers. I am just looking to making it more quiet.
There are a few manufacturers for cast iron manifolds not just originals. None will just bolt directly to your exhaust pipes as they are closer to the block than any iron one. I would assume a new 90* and pipe back to your existing system would be needed.
I bought the smooth rams horn manifolds from ecklers corvette in Jan. they had a killer deal on them, raw was $57ish a set and coated was $117ish will it directly bolt to your existing exhaust?.......dont know but it should be close
I've done the block hugger/rams horn swap in my head more than a few times, even bought a new tight tuck header set, the headers are longer than the rams horns, so the pipe will need to be changed as Jimmy six said. they sell both the 2 inch and 2.5 inch depending on your exhaust size. I see chromed 2.5 inchers on eBay for less than $150.00 Mine are form a 1970 vette and the exhaust opening is 2.25 inches. good luck
Does not look like you have a lot of room between engine and frame based on your photo. I'm not sure a factory style rams horn will fit as it may come out too near, or over, the frame. So you'll need something like the Speedway Tru Ram manifolds that do incorporate a block hugger layout. But if you just want to make it more quiet, why don't you start by changing mufflers?
This style of cast manifold seems to tuck in more than a stock rams horn https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Tru-Ram-Small-Block-Chevy-Exhaust-Manifolds-Cast-Iron,3823.html
How do you know how loud it is? I see about six things that show this engine is not a running engine. Bones
I went from headers to rams horns miss the noise but not the leaks. I can drive with the windows up now.
