I think the black lace looks good, yet subtle.

Lace is nice but how about something in an argyle?

Seriously...Lace it up and wear it out!

    Lace loses the race.

Look into Rocket Fuel 15x4 front wheels. They are THE perfect front wheel for a Willys and/or Anglia gasser in my opinion.

If you are building the car to sell, leave it red, don't lace it and don't letter it. Anything like lettering could drive buyers away. If you are building it for yourself, build what YOU like and to hell with everyone else's opinion.

It's too plain as is. It needs the lace, panel painting or lettering to make it really stand out.

If selling is real possibility, leave it red w/nothing else. Like LM14 stated above a few posts ^^^.

  11. No lace, red looks good, like someone above said, letter the doors and you're done. In the 50's there were just a few race car colorsPrimer, Black, Red, Yellow, White. Lace is a low rider 60's and later thing.

    No panels. No lace.

I'm in agreement with the gold leaf idea. Lace is on the verge of becoming a cliche' in certain cars/builds. What I think is missing is what was going on after. Those psychotic crazy lines and panels, something with ribbons and shadowed geometric shapes. A sphere, a pyramid shape, small as if floating on top of a bitching crazy vibe. Guy had me strip a car that had a really bitchin gig like that, even had a candy striped driveshaft. I convinced him to keep the driveshaft painted that way as a tribute. You know it when you see it.

It seems as though gold leaf is the majority favorite. Works for me, it takes a lot of time to lace the whole thing.

That's a good choice, if it was a keeper and you wanted lace that would be a different story!

Come on Jim, after all these years you know better to ask us for opinions.....

Since I Love hard-core '60's style race cars and Hot Rods, It's got to have LACE …. maybe done in Gold or Cream.
And if you DO IT …. how about recording a short video spraying it !

    '60's era RULES !

  22. Another vote for lace but paint it in a way that you don't have big panels of lace. Look to do panels in body colour and when fading use the lace to get the pattern on the edges only, if this makes sense.

Pretty much every thing we do here is emulating a by gone era. This car's high stance, straight axle and big slicks poking out of the rear wheel arches are all 1960s gasser cues. Totally righteous. It emulates a '60s drag car, either paint scheme would be appropriate.

Applying your "built in 2018" logic, this car should be slammed, on airbags and rollin' on 20"s. That would be no bueno.

  24. Obviously, I'm for custom paint but as everything in life ...
some lace jobs are better than others.
Reference the best and be careful in understanding what makes the good ones good and the bad ones ending up like a "cartoon version" of a "good" custom paint job.
Accent is good. Exaggeration is bad. Styles come and go. Class lasts.
    My 2 cents worth.

Slots will look awesome on it! You could even do painted steel wheels in the back (matching the car) and polished slotted front runners. Would look sick imo. Beautiful color, Jim.

  29. Definitely lace....a man of your talent should throw the book at it!
