Hot Rods Pics of AD trucks

Pull up a chair. I'd guess we have done a thousand or so AD's in the past 68 years. Most every type of frame, suspension, engine/trans, rear axles, tail gates, bed floors, windshields, gas tanks, customizing, you name it and I probably have a picture record. Your question was about color and paint so following are some pix of a shiny one, a flat one, graphic ones, and even a bone stock ubiquitous factory green one.

Just satin black. Bodywork wasnt nice enough for shiny black, unfortunately.

Lowered it a bit after this and scraped on every bump available. Since sold it on and I still have sellers regret.

 

Todd, yours look great just the way it is, in the satin! ^^^^

May, why do these trucks look so good in primer/satin??!! This is one vehicle I prefer not with shiny paint.

 

Nash Rod Man, the photo was taken late afternoon, so the sun was very kind to my cell phone camera. Next owner (a mate who pestered me till I sold it) removed the whitewalls and redid paint in a black primer.

I thought it looked like crap personally but it was his truck, and somebody agreed with him and gave him 50% more than he paid me for it. We both laugh about that now.

 

This may be the only chopped AD I've ever truly liked. This is a bitchin truck!

Satin hides the body work or lack of. Shiny shows your lack of skill to get it right or shows off your skills in getting it right.
I am so over the faux faded paint.

Of course, this old Ford truck is a daily driver and who knows how long it has been sitting outside in the So Cal weather. But, up close, the blue paint is/was pretty nicely done. The color stands out against a green hillside as well as most buildings or just about anywhere.

As good as the photographs portray the colors on the trucks, you will have to see the actual samples in the sunlight from your painter or paint shop. (look at the shadows and direct sun) Digital cameras do a very good job of showing actual colors. But, because this site like most sites is a third generation posting from the original color of the truck, the tint/glow may be altered from real life.

This Ford truck must be a work truck as the height is relatively stock. But, for my tastes, a California Rake or lowered all around with the wheels filling up the fender openings is a better look. (this would call for smaller tires inside of the fenders…) Although air bags are a no- no here, how does one use a truck for truck business and still look cool on the daily drives?


My old 65 El Camino had air shocks from the factory and with the loaded air, it held tons of extra air for supporting "stuff" in the bed. When the air and "stuff" was out of the shocks and bed, the ride height was level for normal driving. But, these days, automation needs some loving, here. We can't all be "tail-draggers" forever... and still use the truck for truck work/play. IMHO
