Check out the kid in the back. Judging from his elbow he's come off of there a few times

Somewhere here I have a picture of a cart that my brother and I have back in the 50s that my father and grandfather made. It had a Briggs & Stratton motor for a washing machine I think it was about 3 horsepower if I remember. It was very crude but it worked okay, the steering was a cable that went to both wheel hinges and it wrapped around the steering columns. It had a engine pulley and a pulley on the drive axle and a belt that had slack in it, so to get it running you pressed a pedal which put tension on an idler pulley. The other pedal was for the throttle and if I remember it had no brakes. Looking back it seemed like wide open it was flying but in reality that was probably 10 to 15 miles per hour. I remember dad hook the steering up backwards for my older brother to ride it and he fixed throttle so it ran wide open. My brother had it going all over the place until he finally ran into some bushes.
I could always get it started and running, he never could. To this day I love anything mechanical, he hates cars, bikes, etc., probably from his experience! :)

Those first gen tops never were my favorite, something about them just looks off.
On the other hand; with those "adornments", I'm warming up to that one for some reason.

Another known custom car. Google Bob Metz's LaRocket for the info on the car. It was featured on a Rod & Custom cover. It is supposed to resemble the LeSabre. Am I the only one who read those magazines as a kid?
