I have heard news that sadly Marcel De Ley passed away this morning.
Another legend has left us, I didn't get to spend too much time with him, but he was extremely nice to me in that short period. He will be missed.

Sad to see another true artist and craftsman leave us. I truly think what people like Marcel do is art. Most of us can learn the skills, but there is some genetic artistry that takes those skills and does with them what someone like Marcel could do.

R.I.P. Marcel - Say hi to Pete, Boyd, Buttera, and the Ol’ Dad when you get there.

I only got to watch his artistry on TV, hope someone can post photos of all the cars he built. Thoughts and prayers going out to his family and friends.

I was lucky enough to be parked near the Alstott's ‘35 Ford at Del Mar in ‘07. The quality of his work had to be seen to be appreciated.

    My condolences to his family.

Marcel was truly one of the most-gifted, talented, aritsan's/craftsmen that ever "bridged-the-gap" between Classics, Rods, and, Customs. His work flowed seamlessly through every age, style & genre...and the results were stunning "rolling sculptures", "art on wheels".

He created timeless beauties that, like the works of Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso, Edward Hopper, Thomas Hart Benton, van Gogh, and all the rest, could be given a place of honor in any museum in the World.

    R. I. P., Marcel. I have admired your work for over two decades, and a part of my life will have an empty space in it because I never got to meet you and record your oral history for all current, and future generations, to learn from.

My sincere thoughts & prayers to his sons, his family, and his friends.

Was fortunate to enjoy Marcel and his son's hospitality on several trips to LA. True craftsmen and gentlemen of our sport. My condolences to Luc and Marc and families.

It's a sad day when the world looses someone so talented. I'd have to say that many of us may have challenged ourselves just a bit more after seeing examples of his work though.

Very sad to learn of his passing. Beyond his obvious talent he had a lovely sense of humour, a really fun guy. Will be missed.

A really nice guy and a great talent for sure. I met him back in the 80s when I had a shop in San Marcos and we had him build the back half of a 1929 Pierce Arrow that had been converted into a wrecker. Got to know him and his sons Marc and Luc pretty well. They are extremely talented as well, thanks to the tutelage of Marcel. After they finished the work for me I still stopped in a couple of times to see what new projects they had. For a guy that liked metal work, like myself it was like a kid in a candy store. I remember a Duesenberg body and a Brunn Packard that were off the charts. Luc and Marc will carry on I am sure as they have been doing so for years. RIP to Marcel.

Wow what a craftsman. I beat on a piece of metal on a stump and it looks like a piece of metal that was beatn on a stump. Marcel beat metal on a stump and the next thing you know there was a four wheel piece of art sitting there.
