    If you lock your dog and your wife in the trunk for 2 hours, which one is happy to see when you open it back up?

    I think you're right, it looks like he's leaning against the car he attempted to qualify that year.

  9. This pic was taken in New Zealand. The Chev in front with the plate EP3989 is still in the NZ registration system. Last on the road in 2010. It is a locally assembled Impala sedan sourced from Canada. They arrived semi finished - trimmed and painted - and had a few locally sourced components added.

  10. I see the local paddy wagon is leading the parade - doors open - maybe for the photographer? The car second back is a Winton.

    That looks like Ralph Potter of Ralph's Mufflers and Mr. Bendo fame on the left. Ralph was involved in oval and Bonneville racing for years. And he fielded top midgets for decades with drivers like Page Jones and Tony Stewart in more recent years. Ralph also bought the rights to Kurtis-Kraft 1/4 midgets from Frank Kurtis and continued manufacturing the little cars in Indianapolis through the 1960s. Mr. Bendo was the "Paul Bunyon" sized statue of a man bending exhaust pipe that he put outside his first shop. It's been rebuilt a couple of times since the 1950s but it's still something of a curiosity that travelers often stop by to see.
    Check out this link for Mr. Bendo....

    I guess you heard the conversation with a potentional buyer;
    - Would this fit my 1955 Roadmaster?
    - Yes, sure, it came off that model!

    The first attached shot looks like cars on the grid for the semi-feature at Milwaukee in 1956. The first two cars transferred to the Rex May race and Dick Rathmann in 81 was the winner. Other cars in photo were driven by Eddie Johnson (76) and Jim McWithey (77).

    And by the trash/papers up against the fence the second photo looks like a posed promotional shot the day after Floyd Roberts won the 1938 Indianapolis 500. Indiana Oxygen (name on the cylinders) has been a gas and welding supplier to the 500 from the start and is still doing so in 2018. And the nitrogen bottles in the photo are likely in use now as well. It's nothing to find a nearly 100 year old gas cylinder still in use. When I've swapped out welding gas cylinders the guys have shown me several very old cylinders still in use. They even had a couple of German cylinders from the 1930s that had swastikas on them that had made their way to the U.S. after the war. Someone had taken a punch and tried to make the original shape look like a square instead of a swastika but you could still make out the original marking.

    Going up that road, on the right there's a turn off they use to store gravel. About 30 ' into the woods there's a '35 Pierce Arrow rolled over on it's side. They used Pierce Arrows to transport people up and down that mountain back in the day.
