Mine are stock looking Chevrons and LED’s I think I sourced them thru Vintiques they are bright as can be.

The only problem I encountered since my fronts were also LED was I had to add a load resistor to get them to blink. I tried 3 different supposed LED flashers that did not perform as advertised.

  2. Hey Kelly,

Here are a couple of shots from the day my Uncle Bob rescued the truck from its barn captivity. The guy on the tractor was H.H. Rathbunn, whose name is on the original title that I have framed in my office (at the house), issued by the state of Missouri on, I believe 4/25/1940.

The LED ones I use are made by technostalgia--have used them on many 40's They are bright and fit the fender better than stock ones. Usually $115 from place I get them-just bought another set for 40 in the works. Drake's may be theirs. I leave regular bulbs in the front turn/park lights using drakes kit and with those bulbs in front they provide enough load for flashers to work.

We need to see more stake side trucks.
In my younger years you would never have heard me say that.

Thanks to olscrounger for the tip and reminder about technostalgia lights ,as I had them on a previous car and they are worth every penny. I ordered a set this afternoon. Thanks again to the Power of the HAMB. Later Bill

I run the same on my coupe. I agree with olscrounger as to fit and brightness.

Here's a picture I took today of my friend Mac Burnett standing next to my 40. Lately I've been meeting Tuesday mornings at a local McDonald's to have coffee and BS with my old motocross and trials and enduro riding buddies. Mac was the only one around Wichita that could make a Yamaha SC 500 go around a track and was/is one heck of a trials rider. Anyway BITD he had a 64 Galaxie with a built SBF. Built by Ted DeTar (Kansas Badman), Chet Wilson and a bunch of other local hot rod heroes. Mac said he had some cheater slicks from California but it'd still smoke the hides in top gear! Could never get it to hook, ha ha. He's still got a 39 Chevy coupe that he's had for 55 years! And it's cool. Anyway Mac's a cool guy and some of you Wichita folk might like seeing him. He's a great guy. mac.jpg

  10. I looked under the car. It is open drive, but I can not remember what the rear suspension is.
It is what the car had when it was first built.

After numerous complaints of those traveling with me I switched to LED’s last year, bright even during the sunniest part of the day.

I have three grandsons and I love them all but the youngest, Wyatt (16) is the gearhead of the bunch. So I lent him the '40 to take his lovely girlfriend Lexi to the prom tonight. First time he has soloed with the car and it wasn't a great day weather wise, occasional rain showers and cool temps. But he did fine. Just made an old man proud and kind of reminded me DSCN0101.JPG of how times sure slips away. Seems like only yesterday he was in diapers and now at 6'2", he likes to pat me on the head!

Thanks i.rant. I figure this is what hot rodding is all about for me at 75. Helping the new generation appreciate old school rides (he drives a 10 year old turbo W#& he saved up for working at McD's) or bringing a smile to a really old guy at a nursing home and listening to his stories of "my pappy had one of those". Maybe we'll do a project with his dad for him (Dad is welding instructor at Navy shipyard here). That way they can do the work and I can direct from a chair. I am damn good at that. Hell of a lot better way to spend my time than going to shows or power parking events. My new rule is I don't go anywhere where I have to pay to display my car and I want to be able to leave when I want. This coupe is easy for the missus to get into, comfortable for her to ride in. This lets me "break her out" of the nursing home to go get ice cream now that it is finally warmer here in NH. DSCN0097.JPG

A gathering of hot rods in the park...

    Hello,

My wife told me that this sedan had the "black wheels and small smoothie hubcap" look that she liked. Her photograph showed a very similar look like our two sedan deliveries. No fancy rims, chrome, mags or otherwise, but a simple, smooth "old time hot rod" look.
    upload_2018-5-14_3-54-1.png
Before we bought our 2nd 40 Ford Sedan Delivery with the SBC + A/C, we looked at a couple of 1940 two door, Deluxe Sedans. We liked the room it had in the back seat and the overall look. We also liked the cost of the ones we looked at during our trek to get back into hot rodding/cruising. We knew the back seat could be removed to allow long items from the hardware store and lumber yards. But, my 10’6” longboard would not fit, even with the rear seat back removed.

So we continued to look for another car. But, it had to be a 40 Ford of the sedan, sedan delivery or wagon variety. Even though the wagons were priced out of our range at the time, we still like the clean look of the 40 over the popular 46 variety. For us, the panel delivery would not fit in the garage, so that model was out. Could we make the longboard fit inside, somehow...sideways, perhaps?

The 2 door sedan always reminded me of my friend from high school. That red, 2 door sedan had a big Buick with a LaSalle in it and was fast. That 40 sedan had lots of room in the back for double dates and such. It might be that I liked that 40 sedan because it had so much power. My high school, 40 Ford Sedan Delivery only had a stock flathead, so power was lacking.

My sedan delivery needed more power going up and down the Coast Highway hills and slopes. Back then, it was nice not to worry about how fast we were going, but how much fun we were having getting there. “It is the journey and not the destination…” Well, sometimes it is the destination and what we found, once in the water.

I received and installed the LED's from technostalgia Saturday. I hate to use the old adage of daylight and dark but they are terrific. I didn't know how bad the originals were even with 1157 led bulbs. They also fit the curvature of the fender much better than the originals. Thanks again to the power and knowledge found on the HAMB. Later Bill

I was reviewing some pics my daughter took and forwarded to me. We post on this thread because we all like 1940 Fords, imho one hell of a pretty car from Uncle Henry. They bring us joy and pleasure in owning and driving them. Well, not to beat an horse to death, here is one more picture from the recent Sanborn High School prom night. Now look at that kid's face! Is that not a HAPPY '40 Ford driver? Your sixteen, your have a girlfriend and a job after school, and grandpop lets you drive his hot rod to drive to the Junior prom. I doubt anything could yank that smile off his face. M 32294540_10215666608689175_4283959041417281536_n.jpg y old '40 has given me a lot, pride in ownership, fellowship with guys on this thread, my "Prozac" during the caregiver years, and now it gave this kid one hell of a special night. Soon as we stop having freeze warnings at night in NH, it will take Miss Linda for ice cream as a brief respite from her new home. Gotta believe that is what this hobby/sport/avocation is all about.
