Started going in 91 off and on for a few years, then every year since 1997 (when it was to be my 'Last Trip').
Chick and I have seen good salt and bad salt, we have driven the salt a couple of time (try that while trying to do business). We have made great friends and have lost friends.
I ignore the 'Sky is Falling' pundits that have only been to B-Ville on a 'Bucket List" trip or pass on the salt. It's exciting, it's boring, it's like Hollywood - Hurry Up and Wait. It's a Circus, it's a freak show, it's history, it's everything Hot Rod wrapped with a layer of salt for the brave.
Go! As fast as you can to get there, then go as fast as you can (in a race vehicle)!
This weekend Land Speed Starts with El Mirage Dry Lake Bed. The Salt Circus has a new carb, we have a 'new' motorhome and will heading out tomorrow morning to help with Tech and I am the new Porta-Potty King!

  4. Been running there for a few years now and highly recommend going at least once. If you go though be forewarned, go as a spectator and you just may get hooked and start building something to run. Not a bad thing. I have been campaigning a pickup for the first part of this decade but feel it's time to go faster and move into a roadster. Be looking for something "new" with a Y-Block out there this year. ;)

When my family moved from Canada to Cal in '61 the old man stopped off at Bonneville. Nothing going on at that time but I can say I have been there.
    At 14 I was impressed. It's a big place! :)

It's worth the trip to see all the different types of cars built to go fast and throw in the Hot Rods that come to watch and it a for sure winner.

It's pretty insane. Nothing else in the universe is quite like Bonneville.

  9. Willy Jones? Willy Young drove the Kenz & Leslie streamliner. So much for professional accuracy.

My entry has gone in. It's an over used phrase but there really is nothing like it.

Tim, can you get in and out of your roadster between the roll age and the windshield? you can't hinge it to get out in the bail out. Looks great and you will enjoy it for sure...

Tim I would assumed that but in the bail out for inspection it must remain down. I'm not saying you can't have a hinged one as I have seen some and inspected cars with them. What I am saying the during the bailout it must remain locked down. In the Gas/Fuel roadster page in the rule book it says tonneaus are allowed but cannot violate the definition of an open car. Pg.75 I will be at the El Mirage meet Saturday and Sunday and ask the Chief Inspecter.
I only questioned your roadster because it looked close in the photo and you may have had plenty room to get out with it down. It's a great looking car and there is no better ride than an open car at Bonneville and highboys are where it all started.

TYPO 41- If you need any advise on the Porta- Potties I did it at B-ville for 20 plus years! No one bothers you and the tips are good! Don't forget to wash your hands!

Here a picture of me next to my roadster. I can get in and out very easy.

You need to go. See if any teams with only 2 or 3 people could use any help, as it is always welcome.

Yours looks about the same as mine and I can get it and out pretty ez. I don't know if your 384 has ever run at El Mirage but without a "surround" at the back of the roll cage, I'd take off the windshield...dust....
Tims just looks close in the photo, it may be just fine.
