History Don Garlit's Tach?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rob-redm, Mar 1, 2010.

  1. It was in the Nomad when i bought it. Does anyone know to what era these tach's were made ? It's working and looks right in the car. Just want to get more information about it. Sorry thought the picture I had taken showed more of the tach. The housing is red and white striped. Thanks Rob

The ad shows a RED that should narrow it down some.

[IMG] These are on display at the museum. A couple of years ago, a mint one, in the box, went for 750$ on ebay.

Yes they are back lit if I remember correctly. The light came in from around the edge of the face I believe. I had one on my car in the 70's. It's been a while so I can't remember the details but I still have it. It's at my shop where I won't be until this weekend. I'll drag it out and give you some answers if you don't get any sooner. Mine is in really rough shape. I wish I would have taken better care of it.

  16. Thanks Shirv, let me know what you find when you can take a look at yours .

Dixco also made a hood mounted version of the "Garlits" tach
    too.

There's a vendor, on that auction site we all know and love, who sells the stars and stripes decals for these tachs. Have a friend who also has a Don Garlits tach; virtually everything he has is for sale. It's what he does. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I have had mine for about 25 years, $5 at a swap meet in Colorado. Been in several cars since I've owned it. No real pretty anymore.

I picked up one in a trade that is pretty rough. Did not notice but the white needle is gone and bezel is rusty so looking for parts -maybe a tach without a cup and mounting brackets? The stars and bars decal kit is ok- the stars are way too small and a little pricy at $25 for a red&white stripe sticker.
