Got to ride in the cab of both units...that's where my dad taught me the difference between a whistle and a horn.

I always loved the fifty four car. It was beautiful in its well thought out details and build quality, yet simple. The car was just "right" - one of those you know it when you see it things.

As I remember, Jerry Poland was in the seat.

The car also had the original Gaerte customer engine in it.

It's still around as a " survivor " , complete with the original engine, but I'm not sure who the current caretaker is.

Edit: I think I screwed up - that looks like an earlier car and I think the driver was Bud Tinglestad.

Also, is that a young Lloyd Ruby in the first picture?

Looks like a great promotional photo for the midget races at Playland Park in Houston. The Playland Park track hosted both midgets and stock cars on a weekly basis for several years. It was located on the same basic site as today's NRG Stadium (Houston Texans NFL team) and the now repurposed Astrodome. A young A.J. Foyt was a regular at Playland Park when he was just starting out.

That's Tingelstad's car at Altamont Ca. 1966. He's standing in front of it combing his hair.
