We played a game we called pull tire. Someone in the group would have something valuable like a jeep gas can, Dodge Lancer hubcap, or tire. We would tie a wire to it and set the item on the shoulder of a road and wait for someone to stop to pick up our bait item. Once they were stopped and walking toward the item, it was given a big pull into the brush and well all yelled sucker.

  3. Hey Deuces, This country got mobile after the 2nd worldwar on the Solex. When i moved here i had a collection of about 10 of the things in no time at all. Never seen one in Australia. I remember thrashing through the bush on one and a rabbit actually dropped dead from fright . Took them to a swap meet after about 10 years and got good money for the lot.

I looked at a rotary dial pay phone at an estate sale the other day and didn't snag it an drove back 50 miles the next day to get it and someone else had already bought it.
Looking down through that list I was around most of them. Remembering in the early 50's the whole family gathered right here in the room I am sitting in now to watch tv on my grandparent's TV that sat in the corner where my 52 inch flat screen does now. I think that tv cost more then than the flat screen cost.

I don't know about you guys, but I thought getting old would take a lot longer than this.

  11. If you guys like vintage stuff, check out the Vintage Motor Bike Club, Portland, IN. If it has wheels and motors, it will be there! Hot Rods too. It will make you 14 again just driving in the gate!

Here's a link from the meet of 2011.

I grew up 'back then'. I don't get any goosebumps thinking about it. I was in military school when I first heard, "Heartbreak Hotel". The truth is I think the sixties are a lot more interesting. Drag racing was just taking off, and all of a sudden Plymouth, that we'd called Mayflowers, and Dodges were badass, and the Chrysler 300 was a monster on the highway and everyone wanted a Hemi. Music took off, and even Ford regenerated itself with some better ideas. And, the ladies changed with the times, too. I won't get too enthused about it, on account of other things going on, but in my mind it was a right high time.

Some of that might depend on what part of the country you were from. I.e. west coast, the South and or east coast. Generally speaking the consensus is the same....most say it was better.

Anybody remember clipping "coupons" to turn in for CASH, even if you DID'T use the coupons for the product (???). My older sister was "bat poop crazy", as they say, doing that; I always thought she was nuts, and a fraud to boot. I always WORKED; paper route, mowed lawns, sack boy at a military base commissary, and 3 years after school at the local Standard Chevron Station. I always thought I should have been born in the previous generation; a better "fit" for me, and I'd loved that age of drag racing. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
