Don't have anything new so I'm recycling some oldies. Colorized and painted from a black and white photo.

  5. Goodmoring. I've been trying to finish some older sketches. By detailing and adding backdrops. 20180511_050645.jpg

Some years ago, my cousin took a job as service writer at Graham after selling his successful Mustang restoration business. Cool pic!

    upload_2018-5-11_3-49-0.png The Flame Fish
(inspiration by our granddaughter’s most recent art project day.)

    Hello,

Back in the late 60’s, there was this old house on PCH/Coast Highway South in Laguna Beach that showcased fish of various types with colorful flames and bodies. We thought they were real fish that were stuffed by those taxidermy guys. My dad had a couple of his “first of the season” fish stuffed by his friend and had them sitting on a wall in our old Long Beach house.

My mom hated them, but got along, since she was the cook of all of the fish that my dad caught. (The stuffed ones were, a big, Rainbow Trout from Crowley Lake and an Albacore from Catalina…My mom said a definite, “no” to the Swordfish from the Coronado Islands)

This guy in Laguna Beach,CA caught everyone’s eyes, as he mounted a couple of his flaming fish on the outside of his house on PCH. It wasn’t just any old house, but one on a busy, street stoplight, corner near a famous, hamburger stand and a short cut to the beach. So, everyone, that had to stop at the light going either north or south, could see these fish hanging on an outside wall of this old Laguna Beach house.
upload_2018-5-11_3-50-13.png The details were pretty amazing…
(his were fiberglass molds…not stuffed ones.)

If you were a hot rod/cruiser stopped in that famous hamburger spot across the street, you could sit there and have a juicy burger and be amazed that those “flames” stood out from so far away. This was a very common occurrence in our 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, cruising/surf trip days. I am sure that display of “flaming fish” inspired many to draw flames. (On cars, lawnmowers, bikes, or school notebooks.)

When my dad was gone, my mom could not wait a second to get those stuffed fish off of the walls. She told me to get rid of them. But, I had other things in mind. I wanted to experiment with our spray paints and brushes to try and get the same look as those Laguna Beach, flamed fish. My experiments did not look like the ones hanging on that old house in Laguna. They bit the dust within a week. Back to the drawing board…

    Flames, flames, flames…

  10. I've been goofing off with resin lately . Always wanted to play around with sculpture. I make these outer cheap plaster, then paint and cover in resin. Nothing traditional here, but I did throw a 1/24 scale blown small block in there. 20180511_230444.jpg

I've been wrenching instead of painting, so here's a rerun of earlier post. Many last minute trips to the parts store lately!

Thanks Rusty...I am going to start by crediting the artist that did the kids wagon thing...I again like to build off of things that inspire me so I threw in the ole Hotrod and needed a driver of course and found John being John then did a fair bit of clipping and layering in Photoshop.

I still get a chuckle when I look at it...

By the way any photo manipulation program with layers, clipping and blending could achieve such an image.

Hey all...my sister is quite the photographer and she suggested I try something she has used to add to visual interest to any image...and it is free...as a matter of fact I used it on the 29 Oakland last week and Rusty Rockets Racer prior to that.

It is called the NIK collection

    https://www.google.com/nikcollection/

It says its a plugin which it is but it runs also as a standalone program which is how I use it. I have no affiliation but just have been amazed by its power to add something to your digital art. I use the Color Efex Pro a fair bit....they all do amazing things...

Just sharing some of what enhances the things we enjoy that being art.

    Again an amazing tool.

Thanks for the compliment...I enjoy art that can take us away from the real world for a moment to just smile and perhaps laugh a little. It's good for the heart.
